Established in 1933, Barbados Museum & Historical Society is a non-profit organization dedicated to preserving Barbados culture and heritage. Although the building originally served as a military prison of St Ann's Garrison, it now houses thousands of artifacts in displays about natural history, maps, decorative arts, local history, and culture. Temporary modern art exhibits also make appearances in the museum. Check out the gift shop before leaving to pick up special souvenirs, such as map reproductions, Barbadian crafts, and West Indian books.   • A museum that historically worthwhile, but something to the presentation of the collection. It tells the history va Barbados in a wonderful little environment (former prison and fort) with a well-maintained garden. Small but nice.

  • Not really worth visiting. It doesn't seem like it's been updated since the 70s and there's no guided tour.
  • Quite small - plan maybe a little over an hour - but with a good range of exhibits covering the history of the island and its inhabitants.
  • It's a modest, small, and intimist museum. However it gives a very good historical look at the island. Special note of the chattel house architecture. ****
