Sonargaon, Dhaka City

Sonargaon stands as a window to the once glorious past. See gorgeous ornate architecture, intricate flower decorations framing doors, and windows now standing completely abandoned and covered in moss. Although the development started under Buddhist control, the city flourished under several hundred years of Muslim rule. The buildings have deteriorated significantly, but some traces of the once-vibrant colors pop out now and then. Visit the folk arts and craft museum to see handiworks made by local artisans, then check out Panam city, built in colonial style during the British rule and inspired by many European cities.
