Baldha Gardens, Dhaka City
Categories: Gardens, Nature & Parks
See the collection of over 670 species of plants at Baldha Gardens, the oldest botanical gardens in the country. The gardens span 1.27 ha (3.15 ac) and contain rare plants from around the world. Narendra Narayan Roy Chaudhury created the gardens in 1909, and continued developing the site until his death. In 1962, his grandson gave the gardens to the government on behalf of his family. Two sections of the garden--Psyche and Cybele--display an interesting mix of trees and plants, such as climbing ivy, papyrus, aloes, and many others. Go to the Psyche garden to see a lily pond, amajan lotus, blue nympheas, and a huge sundial.
