Baldha Gardens, Dhaka City

2.9
#4 of 7 in Parks in Dhaka City
See the collection of over 670 species of plants at Baldha Gardens, the oldest botanical gardens in the country. The gardens span 1.27 ha (3.15 ac) and contain rare plants from around the world. Narendra Narayan Roy Chaudhury created the gardens in 1909, and continued developing the site until his death. In 1962, his grandson gave the gardens to the government on behalf of his family. Two sections of the garden--Psyche and Cybele--display an interesting mix of trees and plants, such as climbing ivy, papyrus, aloes, and many others. Go to the Psyche garden to see a lily pond, amajan lotus, blue nympheas, and a huge sundial. Inspirock's itinerary builder makes planning a Dhaka City trip simple and quick.

Where to stay in Dhaka City

Hotels in Dhaka are among the world's most affordable, but due to a lack of tourist infrastructure you should plan ahead to avoid misunderstanding. Most of the upmarket hotels group in the downtown area, while budget hotels cluster in Old Dhaka. There is a wide range of room or apartment rentals and guesthouses, though some areas impose restrictions for renting out to foreigners. If staying long-term, explore options in Gulshan and Banani, north of town.
