Qalat al Bahrain, Manama
(4.3/5 based on 420+ reviews on the web)
Explore layers of ancient civilizations and the remains of fortresses guarding the harbor at Qalat al Bahrain, a World Heritage Site boasting 5,200 years of continuous settlement. Spread across an artificial hill covering 17.5 hectares (43 acres), the area features spectacular archeological findings. The most richly documented settlement here was the capital of the Dilmun civilization, after which the fort became an entrepôt of many subsequent ones, including Arabic, Portuguese, and Persian. A museum with five exhibition halls details the history of the place, displaying over 500 artifacts excavated from the site. Pick up an audio guide in English, and afterwards relax in the waterfront cafe. See Qalat al Bahrain and all Manama has to offer by arranging your trip with our Manama trip itinerary builder.

  • in Bahrain, there are virtually no historical monuments, this can be called the most within. Interesting walk. Beautiful evening lights. Entrance is free of charge. It's just a stone fortress, with different rooms inside that go down. It is large enough. Visit worth it.
