Gold Rock Beach, Lucayan National Park
(4.8/5 based on 380+ reviews on the web)
Secluded Gold Rock Beach is famous for its state at low tide, when its shoreline extends for yards into the sea--affording it the nickname of Grand Bahama Island's "welcome mat." A part of the national park, it lies next to the longest underground cave system in the world. Don on some sturdy shoes and venture of into the caves or bring along your snorkel and explore the crystal waters. The longer way from the parking to the beach is through the mangroves, but you can take a shortcut over the wood-slatted bridge. Bring large towels, snacks, and lots of water, since the amenities include only barbecue pits, benches, and picnic tables. • This beach is so beautiful. We drove with the rental car so we weren't with a group. The waters are so clear and beautiful. I loved loved the beach it's probably the most beautiful beach I've been too...  more »
  • It is one of the 10 most beautiful beaches in the world (so I'm told) and I must say that I was absolutely delighted. There are organized trips (it's rather far from Lucayan) which will make a brief stop. I've been there with private car and I experienced that it is difficult to remain there for a whole day because around there's nothing absolute. Can then be beautiful but you have to go there prepared, with adequate supplies of water and something to eat. Upon my arrival a lady was selling banana biscuits and water but after a while disappeared ... The beach is amazing and it should be noted the considerable movement of the tides that will totally change the look throughout the day. Around 15.30 (in August) the water back up to several meters high and there are many water birds. There are accessible through a field of mangroves. Across the street there are some caves with a guided tour but I did it only in part, at the end of the day, because I was exhausted and beleaguered by horseflies. You are in contact with a really wild and almost untouched nature. The beach does not have any type of service or equipment, apart from a large wooden shed that is used for guided tours.
