Ben's Cave, Lucayan National Park
Categories: Geologic Formations, Caves, Nature & Parks
The mysterious and enchanting Ben's Cave attracts many visitors with its clear, turquoise water and interesting history. Lush bromeliad and orchid trees cover this hidden gem, where the remains of Lucayan Indians were found preserved under rocks in fresh water 2 m (6 ft) deep. The caves' pool consists of a layer of fresh water sitting atop salt water, while the passages within the cave extend 900 m (3000 ft) horizontally. See bats hanging from the ceiling and fish swimming in the water. You can scuba diving in the cave, under the guidance of an authorized dive instructor.
