Sapona, Bimini

Categories: Landmarks, Ships, Tourist Spots
Inspirock Rating:
4.5/5 based on 70+ reviews on the web
Explore the haunting shipwreck of Sapona, which has attracted divers and history enthusiasts for almost a century. The ship sank in 1926 during a hurricane, after a turbulent past as an illegal alcohol warehouse during the days of prohibition, before becoming the set of a film. With part of the ship submerged 4.6 m (15 ft) below the water's surface, the shipwreck makes an ideal destination for beginner divers. Keep an eye out for bull sharks, turtles, and stingrays weaving through the shipwreck, making the most of the water's good visibilty. Pay attention for the graffiti on the remains; you can spot some quite interesting works of art. To visit Sapona on your trip to Bimini, use our Bimini vacation generator.
