The Gates with Tranquil Peaks and Thrilling Activities
Azerbaijan's "northern gates" promise breathtaking Caucasus Mountain scenery, home to some of the country’s highest peaks, a classy ski resort, traditional rustic villages, and tasty Lezgi cuisine. Gusar is all about the stunning mountains rising from this north-eastern region that borders with Dagestan. It's home to Azerbaijan’s first ski resort--Shahdag Mountain Resort, named after Gusar’s 4,243 m (13,918 ft) iconic peak. Nearby is the charming village of Laza, surrounded by breathtaking scenery promising hours of enjoyable hikes. Many of the local population are Lezgis, an ancient people of the Caucasus Mountains whose traditional cuisine is also well worth a try on any well-rounded holiday in Gusar.

Where to stay in Gusar

Although you can take a bus from Baku to Qusar, the capital is too far a day-trip. Within Qusar itself, you'll find limited accommodations in the form of a few boutique hotels and inns. Many visitors choose to stay in nearby Quba, which offers more choices. Alternatively, you can stay at the largest ski resort in the country, offering access to the slopes of Mount Shahdag.
