Inspirock Rating:
4.4/5 based on 60+ reviews on the web
Admire impressive minarets of Bibi-Heybat Mosque, a restored historical mosque at the entrance to the city from the airport side. Reopened in 2008, the mosque covers the site of an earlier 13th century mosque that housed the tomb of Ukeyma Khanum, a descendant of Muhammad. With its elaborately decorated interior of green and gold, the mosque features Shirvan architecture with three domes. The old mosque was known as "the mosque of Fatima," as called by French writer Alexander Dumas who traveled here in the 1840s. • The restored mosque amazes its splendor. However, it is not only a true monument of architecture, but also a symbolic place for many Muslims. The Interior has to be calm and reflect on life.
