Azerbaijan Carpet Museum, Baku

#3 of 14 in Museums in Azerbaijan
Explore the largest collection of Azerbaijani carpets and rugs in the world at Azerbaijan Carpet Museum, displaying traditional and modern patterns of the nation's UNESCO-protected applied art. Opened in 1967 as the first specialized museum for carpets in the world, the museum has built its impressive collection over the decades. In 2015 it relocated from a mosque to a modern building shaped in the form of a rolled-up carpet, on the edge of the Caspian Sea. Watch women weaving their patterns in one of the workshops, and learn about the different techniques and meanings of various patterns. Over 10,000 accompanying artifacts such as ceramics, jewelry, and metalwork enrich your understanding of this cultural heritage. To find out how to plan a trip to Baku, use our trip itinerary maker.

  • First Museum of its kind in the world with a magnificent collection of tapestries depicting images from Hawaii's azrbag life in different periods, as well as can be expected in the carpets woven by women demonstrating this craft and movies onto video screens depicting the art of carpet weaving. Highly recommended.

  • The building itself is interesting, one-of-a-kind Museum. But there is one but ... All understandable of course, above all the security checks, but do not need straight so go crazy. You enter through a frame, you check metaloiskatelem further, asking to open the bag, ask questions when they see strange bag items (in my case caused the question plain chocolate in a square Pack))) Then buy a ticket, shoot the top clothes and only you want to climb to the top of the ... surprise. Me not allowed with Backpack))) women's leather, not great, NO MORE THAN the USUAL LADIES ' PURSES. Forced to surrender to a camera store. That nonsense? My bag has just proshmanali far and wide, even chocolate were dragged ... We have documents and money in it. Asked all leave in the storage room, said that it is safe to do so))), and here I am with zhenkoj bag is a direct threat to local carpets. We had to take and carry with them in the hands of documents and purses, I do not leave documents storage in the cells as in a train station. that certainly impaired mood, and the convenience of more is considered an exposition with a passport in hand. In General, if you omit this moment (in any Museum of Azerbaijan did not ask me to leave a backpack ... nowhere else) generally is not bad. Carpets. carpets. carpets.

Where to stay in Baku

Baku's emphasis on architectural diversity--and its fondness for constructions that put all previous buildings to shame--has yielded a range of accommodations. Look no further than the waterfront high-rises for contemporary luxury, or take a peek at the more storied surrounding boulevards for 19th-century class, with grand hotels and stylish boutiques set in Baroque and neoclassical buildings. A smattering of budget-friendly hostels and guesthouses lies throughout the city, particularly on side streets close to the main attractions and train stations.
