Azerbaijan Carpet Museum, Baku

4.1
Explore the largest collection of Azerbaijani carpets and rugs in the world at Azerbaijan Carpet Museum, displaying traditional and modern patterns of the nation's UNESCO-protected applied art. Opened in 1967 as the first specialized museum for carpets in the world, the museum has built its impressive collection over the decades. In 2015 it relocated from a mosque to a modern building shaped in the form of a rolled-up carpet, on the edge of the Caspian Sea. Watch women weaving their patterns in one of the workshops, and learn about the different techniques and meanings of various patterns. Over 10,000 accompanying artifacts such as ceramics, jewelry, and metalwork enrich your understanding of this cultural heritage. To find out how to plan a trip to Baku, use our trip itinerary maker.

  • Very interesting place for the visitors of Baku and just curious people. The museum has been renovated and changed its location. Having the shape of the carpet itself it represents very modern installation of different carpets woven in different styles and regions. Along with the old historical carpets one can find contemporary carpets as well. Museum has very good illumination so the each carpet is visually well presented. It has souvenirs shop. Though I personally think this shop is expensive. In general it is worth to be visited place in Baku.
  • • Duration of my visit :- 2 Hours ⏰ . • Experience : 1)) Loved the building architecture and the surrounding park 👍. 2)) A big collection of carpets, cloths, and tools that are made of cotton and wool . • Cameras are not allowed as they will ask you to put your in a locker but you can use your phone instead !
  • one of the must sightseeing in baku city is carpet museum.the museum located near the metro station, you can reach there from everywhere easily.the building shaped like a rolled carpet.it takes 1-2 hours to visit all 3 floors.as its interesting to visit beautiful classic carpets from different cities from the past .its not only visiting the carpets,it means visiting the history.the process of changing maps!
  • It was amazing amazing amazing, lot of history and culture. If you are a student do not forget to take it with you, you will get a good discount. It doesn't matter which university or which country you studying in.
  • Azerbaijan Carpet Museum reopened its doors in September 2014 following a highly anticipated move from the second floor of Baku’s Museum Centre. The structure of the Carpet Museum in Baku is intended to look like a rolled carpet. The structure, which took six years to build, has curved walls from the inside, not just the outside, which means that visitors can admire the country’s intricate textiles. SOURCE: Baku Travel Guide
