Wiener Riesenrad, a landmark on the Vienna skyline, is one of the earliest Ferris wheels ever built. The nearly 65 m (212 ft) tall Ferris wheel opened in 1897 in celebration of the Golden Jubilee of Emperor Franz Josef I. Enter one of the eight original wooden cabins that form the Wheel of History. The tour takes you through 2,000 years of the history of the capital city. Audio impressions and an enormous diorama tell the stories of the Prater, which brings a longstanding tradition back to life. • Wiener Riesenrad means Vienna Giant Wheel, which most locals will understand, I say this because Ferris Wheel does not translate. Anyway get there by Metro on either the red U1 or purple U2 line...  more »
  • It's alright. Twelve euros for the privilege of getting reasonable views of Vienna to take a few snaps home with you. It's expensive for what it is, and if I had my time again I wouldn't bother...  more »
  • A bit of old school fun. We went mid week in February when most of the amusement park was closed, but the wheel and a few cafes were open. Quiet expensive (12 euro pp) given what it is but otherwise.....  more »

  • I had a few hours to kill while in Vienna for work and this seemed like a good way to get a birds eye view of the city. Alice was good at 12 euros it lasted about 20-30 minutes and offered great changing panoramic views of one side of the city on the way up and the other going down. It was windy afternoon when I did it and all dealt very stable. Would recommend it if you are in the area. Would be great during sunset!
  • A superb piece of Viennese history, with a place in movie legend as well thanks to such features as The Third Man and The Living Daylights. Even beyond the legacy of this mighty wheel though, there are some incredible views across Vienna - a must see if you're in the neighbourhood! :D
  • The biggest and most attractive among other Eyes/wheels we have tried lately.. the blue purple lighting at its middle is eye catching.. I guess the view is normally great but maybe because we went late night, we were not able to see much! better if it closes before reaching that point when the view is dark.. It cost 12 euros per person and take us only one round so maybe 2 rounds would be more valuable.
  • Had just one evening in Vienna and spent more than an hour here. The time includes travel and queuing up which was totally not worth it. Could have explored better places in that much time. Reached the top around 21:00 PM when the view was not that spectacular. If you have ample amount of time or want to kill time you can try this for an experience.
  • Probably one of the most boring entertainment for tourists in Vienna. I can recommend it only if you have a lot of time and no queue. The landscapes are good but not the best in the city and the wheel rotates very very slowly.
