4.3/5 based on 480+ reviews on the web
Featuring two slim spires visible from a great distance, Votivkirche serves as one of Vienna's major Gothic landmarks, known for its stained-glass windows. Commissioned immediately after a failed assassination attempt on the life of Emperor Franz Joseph in 1853, the church was finally finished nearly two decades later. Consecrated on the silver anniversary of the emperor's marriage, the structure sits across from the site of the assassination attempt. The exterior features an intricate facade embellished with sculptures, while inside you can see an eye-catching altar decorated with glass mosaics and alabaster columns. For travelers who use our custom trip planner, Vienna holidays become easier to arrange, with trips to the Votivkirche and other attractions mapped out and timetabled.

  • The Votivkirche is something special with their size and location. Not the Stefan Cathedral is also worth a visit.

  • Beautiful both outside and inside. Also recommended is Hotel Regina just opposite the church. We were lucky enough to stay in a guest room with unobstructed view of the church.
  • Amazing neo-gothic church.
  • Actually, I like this place better than Stephansdom and also after knowing the history of this Kirche.
  • Beautiful and atmospheric. Try to get inside on sunny afternoon, you won't regret it. There is a small museum inside too.
  • Beautiful church after the restorations. It is worth reading up on the history.
