Where to stay in Vienna

As a former imperial capital, Vienna is full of lavish hotels reminiscent of the city’s royal past. If you’re traveling on a budget, it’s not hard to find hotels for a more affordable price. Consider staying in the Innere Stadt, or First District, if you only have a short time in town, as you’ll be within easy walking distance to many of the city’s main tourist attractions. Outside of the central core, Leopoldstadt, or Second District, lines the Danube and offers peaceful walks through tree-lined paths. For shopaholics, Mariahilf, or Sixth District, is a central neighborhood with busy shopping streets and lively markets.

  • Picturesque staircase with fountains and nice views
  • Maybe to people versed in history this is a landmark, but to me it's just a mildly interesting staircase with some fountains on it. I've tripped up better. Although I did giggle when Google asked me if it was wheelchair accessible.
  • Going uphill using these wonderful steps is a great experience. The design is so amazingly Viennese Jugendstil that you cannot stop to take photos.
  • very beatiful and pieceful place ..
  • Typical Jugendstil outdoor staircase named after Peter Studel and designed by Johann Jaeger 1910. Also one of the locations in von Doderer's 1951 novel "The Strudlhof Steps or Melzer and the Depth of the Years".
