St. Peter's Church, Vienna

4.7
The Baroque exterior of St. Peter's Church conceals architectural treasures inside. The interior of this Roman Catholic church features exquisite golden stucco, pews adorned with cherubic heads, and striking gold and silver statues. Built between 1701 and 1733, the church's ornate construction includes the work of many artists. Once inside, notice the frescoes in the turreted dome. Around the dome, examine depictions of the four evangelists and four fathers of the church. Enjoy the detailing on the gilded ornate pulpit and the golden representation of the Holy Trinity above. • A truly beautiful church in the heart of Vienna. It took my breath with the magnificent ornate alter, the huge amount of life like details and the vivid colors of the paintings. To add to this unique experience is the peacefulness and spirituality you immediately feel inside, with much less tourists and no fees for entry in comparison to the nearby St. Stephan Cathedral.
  • A beautiful little Church in baroques style, so it was abundant in decoration. A little free gem not fat away of the big tourist attraction called Stephans dome ...
  • Beautiful little rococo church. Worth the visit. At 8pm there are free organ concerts (in comparison with 30-60€ in other places for classic music concerts). Quite beautiful.

  • We ve been on one of the free organ music concerts here, they take place every day at 3pm. Beautiful music, charming light and atmosphere

Where to stay in Vienna

As a former imperial capital, Vienna is full of lavish hotels reminiscent of the city’s royal past. If you’re traveling on a budget, it’s not hard to find hotels for a more affordable price. Consider staying in the Innere Stadt, or First District, if you only have a short time in town, as you’ll be within easy walking distance to many of the city’s main tourist attractions. Outside of the central core, Leopoldstadt, or Second District, lines the Danube and offers peaceful walks through tree-lined paths. For shopaholics, Mariahilf, or Sixth District, is a central neighborhood with busy shopping streets and lively markets.
