Architectural Building Religious Site
The Baroque exterior of St. Peter's Church conceals architectural treasures inside. The interior of this Roman Catholic church features exquisite golden stucco, pews adorned with cherubic heads, and striking gold and silver statues. Built between 1701 and 1733, the church's ornate construction includes the work of many artists. Once inside, notice the frescoes in the turreted dome. Around the dome, examine depictions of the four evangelists and four fathers of the church. Enjoy the detailing on the gilded ornate pulpit and the golden representation of the Holy Trinity above. • Although small, this is one of the most spectacular churches I have seen and was one of the highlights of our trip to Vienna. Look out for advertised concerts- we happened to go in during an organ and...  more »
  • Church not very big, interesting architecture. Plenty of paintings and sculptures. Well mantained, seems new!  more »
  • There were so many churches, famous and not-so-famous, tiny and huge, ancient and newer, that I honestly lost count and names of the churches. But I distinctly remember St. Peter's Church because - a)...  more »

  • Tucked in a enclave off Graben is the Church of St Peter’s. This used to be the original Roman encampment in Vienna and a Roman church once stood on this ground. The church had been rebuilt several times through the ages, from Romanesque to medieval times and the current Baroque style is actually inspired by that famous cathedral in Rome that bears in the same name. There is that unmistakable dome that mimics the one at the Vatican. Since Vienna is pretty compact, especially in the historical centre, the church can only be seen clearly when I stood directly in front of it from Graben.
  • Magnificent baroque church that I found during walking in the city center. Even there were many visitors just came in to see, it's rather quiet and peaceful inside.
  • Beautiful! Both inside & out. A must see- but please respectful.
  • A very beautiful church in the heart of the city. Has a great interior and paintings.
  • Beautiful church, must visit, very near to stephandom. Easily located by its green dom.
