Ringstrasse, Vienna

(4.5/5 based on 2,000+ reviews on the web)
A ring road surrounding the Old Town of Vienna, Ringstrasse contains many historically and architecturally important buildings. The 5.3 km (3.3 mi) road replaced Vienna's former city walls. While this road was designed mostly as a display of the Habsburg Empire's grandeur, a second, parallel street called Lastenstrasse serves more practical purposes for traffic. Lined with many notable museums and cultural institutions, many of Rinstrasse's buildings are older than the street itself. A loop of the street will take you to the Vienna State Opera, Academy of Fine Arts Vienna, Austrian parliament building, Vienna's city hall, and other historic buildings. Plan to see Ringstrasse and other attractions that appeal to you using our Vienna vacation trip planner.

  • The opening of the magnificent boulevards was on May 1, 1865. Grand Palais, hotels, parks and prestigious public buildings are strung it. A tour tram ride is a must. Also wonderful to see night light!

  • It's nice to walk down the street during the day, many monuments, palaces and Viennese coffeehouses, Opera, trams, there is a romantic atmosphere and spirit of Imperial Vienna.

  • Tram runs along this road was once the castle walls and is really useful. Bought a bus ticket to go to the Royal Palace, the Museum of fine arts and was a big success. Also just to ride, however, come with historical buildings and the exciting. Get on and off using the tram while exploring Vienna is good, so is recommended.
