Riesenrad, a landmark on the Vienna skyline, is one of the earliest Ferris wheels ever built. The nearly 65 m (212 ft) tall Ferris wheel opened in 1897 in celebration of the Golden Jubilee of Emperor Franz Josef I. Enter one of the eight original wooden cabins that form the Wheel of History. The tour takes you through 2,000 years of the history of the capital city. Audio impressions and an enormous diorama tell the stories of the Prater, which brings a longstanding tradition back to life. • I was mounted on this wheel 50 years ago, and had amazed memories. At the time it was extraordinary, and my husband was looking forward to this attraction included in the Vienna Pass. It's a beautiful mechanics which dates back to 1896. A retrospective interesting at the foot of this wheel allows you to wait to access the rise (see photos). My husband was a little disappointed on the view, it must be said that we went the day before in the Donauturm. At the top is a panoramic restaurant which turns everything slowly and there is a splendid view on all of Vienna. But feel free to take your kids on that wheel. And if you are romantic, some cabins are arranged in order to restore, at night it must be extraordinary.

  • the tour lasts around 15 minutes, but the price is not cheap (about € 9), however it is possible to take a combined ticket with the zoo which is really worth (about € 21 for the zoo + the Ferris wheel)

  • Even in the rain, the views were impressive. It was just a little disappointing to spend €9.5 and slowly go around once.
