Riesenrad, Vienna
(3.1/5 based on 750+ reviews on the web)
Riesenrad, a landmark on the Vienna skyline, is one of the earliest Ferris wheels ever built. The nearly 65 m (212 ft) tall Ferris wheel opened in 1897 in celebration of the Golden Jubilee of Emperor Franz Josef I. Enter one of the eight original wooden cabins that form the Wheel of History. The tour takes you through 2,000 years of the history of the capital city. Audio impressions and an enormous diorama tell the stories of the Prater, which brings a longstanding tradition back to life. • The ticket is definitely a bit pricey for what it is in itself, but we took advantage of that and also wanting to visit the zoo we took the combined ticket, big wheel + zoo, saving a total of 7 euros each. The round trip takes 15 minutes and you can enjoy a nice view of the Prater and the city of Vienna. It is also possible to dine on the Ferris wheel, even here prices are not low, but it could definitely be a good experience for a couple that wants to celebrate a romantic event in an original way.

  • They claim to be the oldest in Europe. Obviously, has fantastic views. It's getting somewhat old-fashioned, especially when comparing with the London Eye or of Paris which is near to place de la Concorde. However, the large park where it is inserted is pleasant for walking and leisure.

  • Every Viennese, and every tourist a round must have turned even the Ferris wheel, after all it is the landmark of Vienna, and that must have seen at least everyone. It is not suitable for people who are afraid of heights. The cars move and wiggle back and forth. In each "section", there is a sitting area in the Middle, around window, where you can watch the scenery. From the air you can take many, beautiful photos! The journey takes approximately 20 minutes and costs about € 9.50. Before it goes up in a car, walking through a room in which one learns many things and can be seen in thumbnail view. Highly recommended!
