Trip Planner:   Europe  /  Austria  /  Vienna Region  /  Vienna  /  Rathaus
The capital city's Neo-Gothic city hall, Rathaus, serves as the house of municipal government. Built between the 1872 and 1883 by Friedrich Schmidt, the building resembles a Gothic cathedral. Front and center is the 98 m (321 ft) tall tower with the statue of a medieval knight perched on top. Rathausmann, who has become an icon of Vienna, is inspired by the armor of Emperor Maximilian I. Climb 331 steps to reach the top of city hall's tower and take in the view of Vienna below. Inside, explore the council chamber, festival hall, senate chamber, grand staircase, stone halls, and coat of arms halls. Audio guides are available in English. • The Rathaus is located at Vienna's heart. It plays not only administrative role, but it is as well a conference building a tourists attraction due to the magnificent architecture. I recommend if you visit Vienna to join the tours that are organized in it. The guide was very helpful, detailed explanations were provided. Everything was great. You will learn interesting things for the building and the city. Of course the Christmas Market behind the building is magnificent because it is probably the biggest one in Vienna.
  • This place is magical. Christmas market next to this place is brilliant. The skating ring is fun. Just walking around the nearby streets are very beautiful. Easily accessible by local transport. Much more beautiful during the night.
  • Absolutely beautiful. The skating rinks and the food stalls / bars made the vibe so entertaining and cool . Unfortunately it’s under a lot of construction as the major downside
  • The greatest rathaus I have ever seen! We saw some wonderful events going on all around it, like ice skating and food.
  • Just wandered off the Vienna city town area happened to see this beautiful huge building. Check on the map and found that it is a municipal building. Worthy to be in your picture collections. Great architecture design!
