Trip Planner:   Europe  /  Austria  /  Vienna Region  /  Vienna  /  Rathaus
The capital city's Neo-Gothic city hall, Rathaus, serves as the house of municipal government. Built between the 1872 and 1883 by Friedrich Schmidt, the building resembles a Gothic cathedral. Front and center is the 98 m (321 ft) tall tower with the statue of a medieval knight perched on top. Rathausmann, who has become an icon of Vienna, is inspired by the armor of Emperor Maximilian I. Climb 331 steps to reach the top of city hall's tower and take in the view of Vienna below. Inside, explore the council chamber, festival hall, senate chamber, grand staircase, stone halls, and coat of arms halls. Audio guides are available in English. • The Viennese Town Hall is worth a visit. Alone the main tower, is 103 meters with the Town Hall of man. Inside, you can admire the magnificent premises with a guided tour. Before the Town Hall, the Town Hall Square, various events take place. In the City Hall Garden, you can relax in the middle of the city.

  • Rathaus is Vienna's city hall. They also host the most popular Christmas market right around the back. If you're interested in taking a tour of the building, they offer free tours with audio guides in various languages on Wednesdays at 1. The audio tour is basic but getting to see/sit in rooms where certain events took place was pretty cool. Tip - there's probably a max # of people who can join the tour so it's best to get there early.
  • Beautiful place which is even though is magnificent and has huge places inside it, it is open to all kind of people not only to visit but also to use the space for any public event.
  • One of the “hearts” of Vienna. In summer the film festival takes place. It is really magic to watch films in an “outdoor cinema” like this! Additionally, if you become hungry, then you are lucky. There are a lot of small restaurants that offer different kind of food. You can find Hungarian, American, Greek, Mexican, Arabic, Chinese food! You take your dish with the delicious food to an outdoor desk nearby or even to the park that is beside the restaurants.
  • Rathaus is Vienna City Hall. It is the perfect destination to chill out. Seasonal activities are organized at the spaios front yard. Winter or summer it doesn't matter. There is always something to do, something to eat and something to enjoy. See you there.
  • A truly remarkable place! Went there two Christmases ago and the experience was extraordinary. We where also given the opportunity to attend a free Christmas concert in the hall.
