Trip Planner:   Europe  /  Austria  /  Vienna Region  /  Vienna  /  Rathaus
The capital city's Neo-Gothic city hall, Rathaus, serves as the house of municipal government. Built between the 1872 and 1883 by Friedrich Schmidt, the building resembles a Gothic cathedral. Front and center is the 98 m (321 ft) tall tower with the statue of a medieval knight perched on top. Rathausmann, who has become an icon of Vienna, is inspired by the armor of Emperor Maximilian I. Climb 331 steps to reach the top of city hall's tower and take in the view of Vienna below. Inside, explore the council chamber, festival hall, senate chamber, grand staircase, stone halls, and coat of arms halls. Audio guides are available in English. • The Viennese Town Hall is worth a visit. Alone the main tower, is 103 meters with the Town Hall of man. Inside, you can admire the magnificent premises with a guided tour. Before the Town Hall, the Town Hall Square, various events take place. In the City Hall Garden, you can relax in the middle of the city.

  • The city hall is even more beautiful in the night. Markets were held in front of it and the atmosphere was amazing. Locals dressed in traditional costume, had wine or beer, sang with music and some played the guitar. You can have a quick bite or do some shopping. They sell food, drinks, cloths, groceries, etc. If you visit in Christmas, there is Christmas market and a friend from here said it's pretty nice.
  • Ryanair is a great place to visit. Impressive government building. Frequent events in front of it, film festival during my visit. Food kiosks also surround the area with good food and drink.
  • Vienna City Hall One of the “hearts” of Vienna. In summer the film festival takes place. It is really magic to watch films in an “outdoor cinema” like this! Additionally, if you become hungry, then you are lucky. There are a lot of small restaurants that offer different kind of food. You can find Hungarian, American, Greek, Mexican, Arabic, Chinese food! You take your dish with the delicious food to an outdoor desk nearby or even to the park that is beside the restaurants. When you finish, a special service rapidly collects the empty dish and everything becomes clean and tidy.
  • This was an amazing back drop for the Christmas Market! Food was very good and there was a nice selection of gifts. Visit Vienna at Christmas you won't be disappointed!
  • The building is lovely and the Christmas Market was fabulous with a treat for all the senses. The night time lighting was fabulous and the crowd was friendly and fun. Enjoyed watching the ice skaters.
