Housed in an ornate palace, Natural History Museum (Naturhistorisches Museum) features a collection of artifacts that has been growing for the last 250 years. Emperor Franz I Stephan of Lorraine is credited with beginning the collection in 1750. Today, the museum is home to about 30 million objects relating to earth and life sciences. The first floor is dedicated to animal life, with exhibit halls focusing on vertebrates, crabs, arachnids, insects, mollusks, and protozoans. In the museum's mezzanine, learn about minerals, fossils, dinosaurs, the earth's history, and anthropology. The museum is best known for its dinosaur skeletons and extensive collection of meteorites. Don't miss the Venus of Willendorf, the nearly complete skeleton of a Stellar's sea cow, an animal that has been extinct for more than 200 years. • The museum itself is great. Perfect for science lovers. It has 2 floors full of interesting exhibits. But the guy in cashier was super rude and had a nasty face. His attitude made me want to spit on him. Please tell him to go to hell.
  • It has an interesting collection. The dinosaurs hall, evolution and space were great. Space dome movies are only in German though. They are still working on the English version as told by lady at information desk
  • The place has that romantic touch of a classic natural history museum but also uses some cutting edge technology to demnonstrate some interesting findings. It's well organized you may walk through the given path and take your time at any point. The crystal collection is marvelous.
  • Wonderful museum. I enjoyed the old collection that showed the scientific wealth of the former Austrian empire and also the modern collections particularly those that brought dinosaurs to life and humanised Neanderthals and our other early ancestors. It would take days to see and read everything so just be content to walk through in a couple of hours and skim the surface.
  • Einen Besuch wert.
