Minoritenplatz, Vienna

4.4/5 based on 35+ reviews on the web
The Minoritenplatz is one of the oldest public squares in Vienna. It is located in the first district Innere Stadt, and is dominated by the Minoritenkirche church, after which the square is named. The church itself was constructed by the Greyfriars, founded in the 15th century by Maximilian I, Holy Roman Emperor as the Family, Court and State Archive (Haus-, Hof- und Staatsarchiv). The building itself now only dates back to 1901. Close to the Archives is the Austrian Federal Ministry for Foreign Affairs, located at Minoritenplatz 8.

  • Palace next to Palais lined up around the square, in the middle of the massive Church of the Minorite occupies their position. Not always open, but at least from the outside you can see how powerful is this church.

  • We were excusivamente to visit this place, but we went there on our tour of the ring or ring road of Vienna. We turned out nice to remove several photos.

  • The Minoritenplatz takes its name from the Italian national church Minoritenkirche, Vienna (to see), set in the piazza with an unusual angle of about 45 degrees. The square is basically the "courtyard" of the Church and I advise you to turn completely around, especially in the space that corresponds to the back of the Church, from which you can admire the beautiful apse. Very beautiful palaces that overlook this quiet corner in the city center.
