Minoritenplatz, Vienna

(4.4/5 based on 40+ reviews on the web)
The Minoritenplatz is one of the oldest public squares in Vienna. It is located in the first district Innere Stadt, and is dominated by the Minoritenkirche church, after which the square is named. The church itself was constructed by the Greyfriars, founded in the 15th century by Maximilian I, Holy Roman Emperor as the Family, Court and State Archive (Haus-, Hof- und Staatsarchiv). The building itself now only dates back to 1901. Close to the Archives is the Austrian Federal Ministry for Foreign Affairs, located at Minoritenplatz 8.

  • Exit on the wrong side of the metro Herrengasse got caught in this beautiful square, practically deserted, behind the Hofburg Palace and made up of Austrian administration buildings. We took some photos because it really deserves, particularly well among other things given the absence of people. The building star of this place is definitely the Minoriten Kirsche but not visited.

  • As is often the case that square takes its name from the Church with the Saint to whom is dedicated; unusually deserted at rush hour does not lose its charm, indeed ...!

  • Palace next to Palais lined up around the square, in the middle of the massive Church of the Minorite occupies their position. Not always open, but at least from the outside you can see how powerful is this church.
