Donauinsel, Vienna
(4.4/5 based on 120+ reviews on the web)
Relax near the river in an oasis of calm at Donauinsel, the perfect escape from the bustle of the city. The 21.1 km (13.1 mi) long--but only 70–120 m (230–394 ft) wide--island separates the Danube River from the excavated channel known as the New Danube. Explore the strip of land known for its walking and running trails, cycling paths, and restaurants, cafes, and barbeque areas. Take a dip in the clear river water, have a picnic, or just sunbathe and enjoy the peace this patch of greenery provides, with swans swimming in the river to keep you company. Arrange your visit to Donauinsel and discover more family-friendly attractions in Vienna using our Vienna vacation route planner.

  • I love the Danube Island. One finds the right place, at any time anywhere to become comfortable there, hang your feet in the water to make, to relax. You can make your Danube Island as well, like everything... Cycling, inline skating, boating, drink cocktails, go for a walk, relax, swim... It's to just any day, night, or seasons beautifully here! Seeeeeeehr recommended!

  • The Centre of Vienna is located on the river Wien and at the Danube Canal, a few kilometers further flows the Danube and Neue Donau. There is a on the intermediate Donauinsel U-Bahn (underground) station. We are going to look just before sunset. It was very quiet, only a few people, but it was worth to the Danube and the shipping traffic in this rest equally.
