The Capuchin church was donated by Emperor Mathias and his wife Anna in 1618 and 1632 completed, the porch dates from 1780. Located on the West side of the new market, corner mirror alley, a plain bar rock building, on the romanticized facade is located a large cross. The Interior of the Church is a one ship-room with Tonnengewölbe. An of the outside is located a bronze image of the Capuchin monk Marco d' Aviano. Left of the Church is the access to the Emperor's Tomb (Capuchin Vault), the family vault of the Habsburgs with richly decorated coffins. A life-size, Leopold, Angel crypt and the new Tomb and the Maria Theresien crypt with the double tomb of Maria Theresia and Franz von Lothringen. Tuscany Tomb, Tomb of Ferdinand, Franz Joseph's Vault, etc.

Rather sober and humble, this small church is to see. Bibles are located in tables facing the bench. I appreciate the confidence in tourists. I found very surprising to see all available so no one to monitor. A place where people come to pray so silence of implementation.

Situated in a square on the left who rises from the Albertina, the street Kärntner is a small and simple Church, compared to others. In your crypt there are graves of Royal family members of Austo Hungarian Empire, not to be missed for those who love architecture and religious themes.

I’ve always heard of the phrase Capuchin Crypt but only realise that it is this one, the crypt at the Capuchin Church. It’s significance? It’s pretty much the final resting place for of the Habsburg family including 12 emperors and 19 empress. The church was undergoing some sort of restoration during my visit, which explains the eerie creepy feeling when I walked by daily until I finally notice the signboard and realise it was the Imperial Crypt.

"Saint-Denis" of Vienna; unlike "Saint-Denis" not ravaged by revolution

Where to stay in Vienna

As a former imperial capital, Vienna is full of lavish hotels reminiscent of the city’s royal past. If you’re traveling on a budget, it’s not hard to find hotels for a more affordable price. Consider staying in the Innere Stadt, or First District, if you only have a short time in town, as you’ll be within easy walking distance to many of the city’s main tourist attractions. Outside of the central core, Leopoldstadt, or Second District, lines the Danube and offers peaceful walks through tree-lined paths. For shopaholics, Mariahilf, or Sixth District, is a central neighborhood with busy shopping streets and lively markets.
