  • Because it is happen right at the Vienna ring, possibly AndyNer46 mean a different goal, perhaps from the new Castle! As part of the earlier fortifications, the predecessor building was built in 1660, during the second Turkish siege of 1683, it was strongly contested. During the war with Napoleon I. it was blown up after the capture by the French. But after Leipzig battle of the Nations, who famously lost to Napoleon, the present gate was rebuilt and 1824 solemnly inaugurated. In the first world war was claimed the gate particularly the "hero" from 1914 to 1916, Viennese citizens should donate a metal Lorberblat of these fighters at the front to carry it on the uniform. In the 30s of the 20th century, it was then renamed hero gate. After the WK. a crypt was established in the Interior, there is a sign with the slogan "The dead of wars." 1914 to 1018 and 1939 to 1945

  • Due to the grandeur of the Neue Burg, and Maria Theresa square, the gate/arc is not so perceived. But it is an important milestone in the Division of these two environments. and has a historical significance, because it was the gate of the Castle, the entrance of the city.

  • Impressive access to the Heroes square. Powerful and high doors would close the Castle gate. This part of the ring is home to several attractions such as the Castle gate, the Imperial Palace, the two museums (art and natural history), various monuments right,... etc.
