Where to stay in Vienna

As a former imperial capital, Vienna is full of lavish hotels reminiscent of the city’s royal past. If you’re traveling on a budget, it’s not hard to find hotels for a more affordable price. Consider staying in the Innere Stadt, or First District, if you only have a short time in town, as you’ll be within easy walking distance to many of the city’s main tourist attractions. Outside of the central core, Leopoldstadt, or Second District, lines the Danube and offers peaceful walks through tree-lined paths. For shopaholics, Mariahilf, or Sixth District, is a central neighborhood with busy shopping streets and lively markets.

  • We enjoyed our visit to the Albertina contemporary art museum, it is a masterful combination of an historic building and contemporary museography and the museum was exhibiting works from Miro, Chagall...  more »
  • It's a great collection. For a complete sight without wearing yourself out, I recommend going for lunchbreak inbetween (the day-ticket allows it). Good discount for students.  more »

  • Good gallery with lovely rooms. Good cafe there and the exhibitions were wonderful. A nice casual stroll in a beautiful building with great art.
  • Very good organized administration, easy to find, changing parts of exhibitions, E-guide oder life with person. You also can go alone, take your time and stay as long as You want. There are places to sit in between but those are rare and most of the time used.
  • When we toured through Europe we discovered this was the place for those who loved the Impressionists. Well worth the visit, with lots and lots to see. My advice, book an appointment online and buy tickets, or you will probably wait.
  • One of the best museums in Vienna for mainly modern art in terms of drawings and painting it has a lot of masterpieces including Picasso, Matisse and Klimt. It's well worth the money and you can spend hours here I was really impressed.
  • We enjoyed some of the current exhibitions of modern artists, along with the impressionist gallery. Lots of Picasso's works throughout his life, so it was nice to see how his craft progressed.
