Grossglockner, Tirol

(4.8/5 based on 280+ reviews on the web)
Discover where the Romans crossed the Alps to make the northern lands part of their empire on your visit to Grossglockner, the highest mountain in the nation. Enjoy the views on the drive up the mountain and then walk to the glacier and waterfalls in the area. Eat at one of the restaurants or pack a picnic and lunch at one the tables along the road. Learn about the natural history and geology of the area from placards offering English and German explanations of sites, and purchase souvenirs from the gift shops nearby. Remember to pack warm clothing, as the temperature drop at the top is significant. Parking and restroom access are included in the toll incurred on the drive to the peak, but note that the road is only open certain months throughout the year, so be sure to check the website for accessibility information. • Spectacular road to reach the top of the ice. Spectacular toll price but worth it. Postcard view. See the glacier from the sense of his strength. To see absolutely

  • Now, we have been on the Grossglockner 5 times. The trip to the top was nice, we drove through turnellerne, where there were large ice boulders on the walls this time was probably the most amazing experience. It was cold, Sun and no there was not a cloud in the sky. To stand there and look up at the top, the view that the snow is drifting up there. Unfortunately, the glacier is still gray and dull. I hope that we can get some snow to the. Yes, otherwise there was snow up there-THOUGH and well worth a visit

  • An experience from the double-sided. The place is very nice, although the glacier is very withdrawn over time. The access road is beautiful, very well maintained, spectacular views and the layout inviting especially for bikers, also thanks to the perfect background. Moreover, the fee paying, not really popular, contributes to the excellent maintenance. Certainly a different reality from many Italian alpine resorts, equally, if not more spectacular (I think of the Gavia, Stelvio, at Tre Cime di Lavaredo, to name a few), in which access, rarely paid, not as "Teutonic", certainly less "cured", but no less fascinating. Indeed, I must say that the inflow to the Grossglockner decidedly commercial tourism stride in my eyes a bit with the severity of the landscape, and see then the marmots quietly seek and accept food from meni tourists put me a bit of melancholy.
