Grossglockner, Tirol

#2 of 53 in Nature in Tirol
Discover where the Romans crossed the Alps to make the northern lands part of their empire on your visit to Grossglockner, the highest mountain in the nation. Enjoy the views on the drive up the mountain and then walk to the glacier and waterfalls in the area. Eat at one of the restaurants or pack a picnic and lunch at one the tables along the road. Learn about the natural history and geology of the area from placards offering English and German explanations of sites, and purchase souvenirs from the gift shops nearby. Remember to pack warm clothing, as the temperature drop at the top is significant. Parking and restroom access are included in the toll incurred on the drive to the peak, but note that the road is only open certain months throughout the year, so be sure to check the website for accessibility information. • We started from the Greece trillion friends motorcyclists in order to visit one of the most famous and beautiful passa of Austria. The route despite the rain and cold was incredible and the alternations of landscapes, magnificent! Unfortunately when we got to the top of the cafeteria and shops were closed because it was everyday day. But with the magic, the awe of the mountain and its unique view stayed several hours to admire the magical mountain ...!! really all motorcyclists should go to the most beautiful, the most beautiful part of Austria!

  • One of the best-known and most difficult pass in Austria "GROSGKLOKNER"! We started the Paso from Zell Am Si, in continued we climbed in elevation approximately 3500 metres to point the tip. Access our little problem as we were with snow machines and Word of the road had several springs. At the top there was a restaurant and 5 floor parking. Beautiful place with thaymastiki views. The passage of the Pasoy cost 25 euro for two-wheeled motorcycle thing that it seemed "a bit" overkill. Finally going down the road after yet another tight track took us out in Lienz city where we did the night. It was a nice driving experience is worth for a time no more. In my view there are many better passages such as for example the Stelbio. However I recommend so you have your own opinion.

  • Beautiful route and beautiful views. One thing that incredibly pissed me off and took away the freedom is the guides that get in even in places where it is narrow and with strong exposure. It's possible that the Austrians do, because I have never seen such behavior anywhere else.
  • Had a great time driving this beautiful overpass on our way to Venice. Really good apple strudel and a nice view. Worth taking a break and soaking it up at the top.
  • Fantastic for road bike clymbing. Beautiful view from the top.
  • If you are in Austria, take a drive on the Grossglockner Hochalpenstrasse, to its top where the restaurant roof blew off while we were having lunch. A stormy day, but awesomely beautiful no less. Do not forget to visit Edelweissspitze on the way.
  • Came her without any preparation. Can't get to the top without gear :( overall, got close to the top and it was a full filling experience. Would go again
