  • The ruins Aggstein is situated on a steep cliff 325 m above the Danube River and from here you can enjoy an unforgettable view over the Danube valley. Founded to 1231 the castle was destroyed several times but rebuilt. Today, the building is impressed by its size, powerful walls, towers, Chapel, as well as the preserved dining House and kitchen. Willendorf, the site of the famous "Venus of Willendorf", a character from the old stone age is located on the opposite bank of the river. Aggsbach, white churches, Spitz, Dürnstein with its historical monuments, castles, monasteries, and legendary ruins are among the highlights of the Wachau Nibelungengau, a journey through centuries.

  • The ruin has been made great accessible and you can explore every corner of visitors. The Castle Tavern offers a down-to-Earth, good cuisine at moderate prices.

  • This castle is located on a hill overlooking the Danube, therefore has good calves or a car to move up the coast at 20%. He comes to ruins but not a heap of stones, most of the walls are standing, and there are even some roofs. The visit is often done with added wooden stairs. Can be accessed at numerous parties and discover the grandiose panoramas of the Valley of the Danube. It's frankly impressive and worth a visit. This is Castle refers to medieval times. There is also a possibility of snacks on place, but we have not tested it.

  • Lovely old castle near Danube river. Wonderful view over Wachau wine Valley. If you enjoy walking, leave your car on the parking near the river. It is about 40 minutes climbing through a nice forest path. The restaurant inside the castle is also a nice place for a refreshment of a meal. I can highly recommend this place!
  • Really cool old ruin with stunning scenery and lots of stairs for kids to play. Small cafe.
  • The Aggstein castle is a remaining ruins of the former castle. It was built in the twelfths century. It was long time owned by ruthless knights, blocking the river by chains and pressing money for passing. The cradle of todays toll systems. The case is rather elevated: 480 meters, round 1570 ft. above sea level. It is located at the Danube section Wachau on right river banks.
  • Very beautiful castle which is worth a visit, despite the long winding way up here. The view is also great. You can see a lot o the Wachau valley from here.
  • This was an amazing self guided tour, definitely get the self tour machine, best castle we have ever visited in Europe!
