#1 of 207 in Nature in Austria
Straddling the border between Germany and Austria, the summit of Untersberg offers spectacular views of Salzburg far below. The tabletop mountain has six different peaks with elevations ranging from 1,805 m (5,922 ft) to 1,973 m (6,473 ft). Take the cable car to 1,320 m (4,331 ft), or hike the well-marked trails to summit the mountain. Protected as a nature preserve, the mountain provides opportunities for outdoors activities, such as climbing and hiking. Follow the Nature-Quiz-Path to learn more about wildlife, mushrooms, minerals, and trees. Visit the ice cave at 1,570 m (5,151 ft), but dress warmly, as temperatures are below zero year-round. A visit to Untersberg represents just the start of the adventure when you use our Salzburg online holiday planner to plot your vacation.

  • By accord, You can use the Fort Myers (without the need for a ticket) to brush directly into the field, accord car is very high, the second mountain is very exciting and interesting, the peak into the cloud cloudy, the peak air is very good, we did not reach another mountain head, there is a restaurant on the mountain to rest and eat, the scenery is very good is worth seeing

  • Untersberg is a massive mountain (beyond 1900 meters), catching your eyes attention since it appears, all of the sudden, from the German/Austrian northern flat part. It looks like a mini god, protecting all the surrounding areas. The view from below is especially dramatic from Salzburg and its neighbor towns. The cable car station is easily reachable from Salzburg, being about 10 minutes by car from the city center. The ride on the cable car is a very thrilling experience, even though I would not recommend it for those who suffer heights.....it has some intense "suspended in midair" moments indeed, especially when the lift (after about 5 minutes from the bottom station) goes beyond the first mountain....that was one scary moment even for me. Once you reach the peak your eyes will be pleased with an incredible view. I was especially lucky with the weather, since the southern side was covered in clouds and the northern part was perfectly visible...was like walking in 2 different worlds, one cloudy and snowy (went there in mid April 2018) and the other with a perfect blue and sunny sky. I recommend bringing some strong clothes and shoes though, when I was at Untersberg, there was still a lot of snow, with points where your legs would completely sink into the snow. There are 2 crosses up there which represent the 2 highest peaks. The first one is right at the station and the other is about 1 kilometer away. A MUST!
  • Amazing amazing views. Was there 2 times- both in winter and summer fantastic
  • Unterberg mountain is situated in Salzburg, Austria. A Cable car takes you up to the mountain which was really a wonderful experience. When we visited the place in the month of April, I amazed to see tonnes of snow on the top of the mountain. It was really stunning scene.
  • Fantastic experience in cable car. The bus trip from salzburg was also nice.
  • What an incredible experience this was. Probably one of the highlights of our trip to Salzburg, Austria. The cable car took us up and then we hiked around. It was beautiful! Amazing views of Salzburg basin and surrounding areas of the mountain. Highly recommend!
