Create an itinerary including St. Peter's Abbey (Stift St. Peter)
At St. Peter's Abbey (Stift St. Peter), see how this medieval monastery served as the home to Benedictine monks for more than 1,000 years. Built about 696 CE, it lays claim to being the oldest monastery in the German-speaking world. St. Rupert founded the monastery at the site of a Late Antique church. Enter the abbey church to see how the Romanesque facade transforms into a Rococo interior. You can view the organs at which Mozart's wife, Constanze, sang at the premiere of his Great Mass in C Minor. Look for the rock tomb--the original tomb of St. Rupert--next to his altar. Check out the shrine under the main altar, which stores most of Rupert′s relics. • Beautiful church and amazing nave and ceilings. The altar is beautiful and Mozart's sister Anna and Austrian composer Michael Haydn are laid to rest next to it. It cost nothing to enter and a must...

  • Very nice area. There is a nice plaza with fountain. A little gift shop has very reasonable items for sale. You can also catch a glimpse of the oldest restaurant still operating.
  • This was my very favorite church & cemetery! And I LOVED the catacombs too! So much history. Incredibly beautiful church with all the paintings. Amazing!
  • Beautiful church and architecture nice grounds. Worth a visit
  • Majestic art, paintings and ornaments. There is absolutely nothing to complain about it. And a very important tip for people travelling around on a budget. IT IS FREE. But please, leave some spare change or make a good donation as the place is really well looked after. You'll find graves of archbishops from the city close to the front of the cathedral and more downstairs. Also places to pray, but if you are not religious like myself, there is no problem, everyone respects each other in a very peaceful way
  • "Small, simple and peaceful" This is a lovely Abbey and one were we sang one piece for no audience. The architecture is stunning and some of the sculptures are truly amazing. There is no fee to enter and unlike the Dom you can expect it to be quiet. The cemetery attached is amazing - graves so small - people must have been tiny in those days.
