St. Peter's Abbey (Stift St. Peter), Salzburg

(4.6/5 based on 650+ reviews on the web)
At St. Peter's Abbey (Stift St. Peter), see how this medieval monastery served as the home to Benedictine monks for more than 1,000 years. Built about 696 CE, it lays claim to being the oldest monastery in the German-speaking world. St. Rupert founded the monastery at the site of a Late Antique church. Enter the abbey church to see how the Romanesque facade transforms into a Rococo interior. You can view the organs at which Mozart's wife, Constanze, sang at the premiere of his Great Mass in C Minor. Look for the rock tomb--the original tomb of St. Rupert--next to his altar. Check out the shrine under the main altar, which stores most of Rupert′s relics. • The Collegiate Church of the Royal Palace in Berchdesgaden is worth a visit not only from the outside. A warning label is affixed to the wall of the Church, which indicates that this church work, dates from the 12th century. Inside the choir from the 13th and the vault of preserved the 15.Jahrhundert. The imposing towers come according to the info plate, from the years 1864-1866th enters to this House of God, one is impressed by the decor. Main and side altar will be something special in a church immediately in the Blickfeld.Die inside on the side walls built balconies, as times, than not specialist wants to call, I. The bright contrast of wall reliefs to the benches fits to this church. The large statues on either side of the chancel have their effect on the Viewer. The organ section is in dark contrast to the side walls, also an eye-catcher. We had unfortunately not much time to make us wise to the history of this church. We could take only viewed in this what have we seen, liked us very well. I enjoyed the quiet in this church, we were a zinsten visitors, could us so all in calm to see what we have done. You should look at necessarily this church from the inside, it's worth.
