Schloss Hellbrunn, Salzburg

Built as a summer day residence for Markus Sittikus (who was both a prince and an archbishop), Schloss Hellbrunn is famous for its trick fountains. The palace was built from 1613 to 1619 as a place of celebration. Sittikus designed the fountains and water-powered figures in the palace's park to entertain and confuse his guests. The trick fountains spray at seemingly random moments, so be prepared to get a little bit wet. Visit the grottos to see representations of Greek mythology, and watch the water-powered show of Perseus freeing Andromeda and Apollo flaying Marsyas. Walk through the palace to get a feel for how the prince and his noble guests celebrated. The park was designed as a show of contrasts of light and dark, fire and water. • Inside it is not the big thing but it is very quick and with audio guide, it is best (45 min) Tour of the gardens with the sources is a real beauty and the tour is really fun.

  • a little off from Salzburg but staff exceptionally well by public transport, the Palace is quite interesting but what is worth seeing are the gardens with fountains and artificial reconstructions near there is also the zoo

  • You should see the fountain and outdoor guided tour. Inside the Palace there is no Korean audio guide brochure, zoom (but see none) might be going a bit crude and outdoor min's children heightens. Singh

  • A truly wonderful experience in Vienna, not to be missed attraction. Some areas need a ticket to be purchased, but the most beautiful " Rose Garden's ' are free for the public. It's a vast palace including the palace grounds, the fountains and the monuments behind. You need at least half a day comfortably to see most of it. Also, Kindly note that there is plenty of walking to do. We were there in May and the heat was also quite bad. However the overall experience is stunning especially due to the magnificent rose garden.
  • We loved the tour of the "trick fountains". It was a great way to have fun and stay cool in the summer. You will get a little bit wet but it is all good fun. Amazing gardens and park nearby.
  • The grounds and gardens for this palace are lovely! The guided tour of the water gardens and trick fountains (given in both German and English) is beautiful, fun, and surprising. Seems like a great place for families with young kids to go.
  • Not only will fans of Sound of Music love this place for the original Gazebo in the gardens, but the palace and surrounding gardens have something for everyone to experience. Make sure to hike up to the stone theater up on the hill, it is one of the most enchanting places you will visit while at this wonderful place!
  • The trick fountains tour is a must-do for everyone visiting The Hellbrunn palace. Very amusing concepts demonstrating the mastery over mischief of the archbishops. Takes about 40 minutes, but you'd rest assured be a fair bit more energised especially on hot summery days.
