  • Busy intersection. We came across it as we were staying on the other side of the tunnel. Worth a look and photo due to its historic significance.  more »
  • Historic structure, worth viewing. Momentarily part of the movie the "Sound of Music" but the history is more significant.  more »
  • This is definitely one of those places in the photo does not do. Often the pictures looks nothing more nor less than a simple fountain, you will remain fascinated by the structure, size and colours of this fountain that served not only water, but also to wash the horses. Enjoy it!

  • An extravagently decorated horse trough as you will ever see. Sadly, the day I went it would not have served this function as there was no water there. (see photo). It is a new spin on the proverb: "You can take a horse to water but..."
  • "Pferdeschwemme"-Platz: film and Sound of Music Fans might remember that place from the movie which can be seen in one Montage scenes while Maria is going shopping and walking with the children in/around Salzburg. Beware: compared with the movie and today: it has a lot cars/traffic today so it doesn't look that romantic like in the movie. Maybe you should try in the summer time to visiting it very early in the morning before people going to work. Otherwise: its historical interesting.
  • Painting & sculpture of horses is exellant.
  • A precious source. It was already known the film smiles and tears. One can not go without a photo.

  • Very good as a meeting place, there conspicuously. Always a fine photographic subject. A few steps further is located the Toy Museum.

Where to stay in Salzburg

There’s no better area to stay in the city where Mozart was born than the historical city center, a World Heritage Site. Salzburg's hub offers comfortable accommodations nestled between a rich array of sights. The Salzach River cuts directly through town, dividing the city into east and west. Look for accommodations in the Altstadt, tucked in between the river and the city’s mountain, Monchsberg. For budget-minded travelers, try a centrally located youth hostel or small hotel. If price isn’t an issue, splurge on Austrian luxury in an upscale hotel.
