Museum of Modern Art Mönchsberg, Salzburg
(2.4/5 based on 180+ reviews on the web)

The Museum der Moderne Mönchsberg is picturesquely situated high above the rooftops of the old town of Salzburg and offers new, contemporary architecture for large-scale exhibitions and presentations of the museum's own holdings an international context. The museum offers an ideal setting for presentations of the museum’s own comprehensive collection and large-scale temporary exhibitions of international contemporary art.

The Museum der Moderne Rupertinum, a baroque town palace built by the archbishops, located in the immediate vicinity of Festival Hall and Cathedral precinct, has been adapted for the presentation of modern art. The two buildings of the Museum der Moderne Salzburg offer 3.000 m2 of exhibition space for thematic and monographic exhibitions of 20th and 21st centry art, as well as presentations of graphics and photography.

  • Rating is solely for the view, which is worth paying the small amount for. Skip the museum, head straight for the viewing point upon getting out the elevator.
  • Expensive cafe and we visited on a misty day so there was no view which was a shame. Really didn't like the art! Most interesting bits were the old photos.
  • In the elevator went to the Hill of the Mönchsberg, Museum of modern art. Since the 20th century modern art, graphic art, photography exhibits have been primarily the modern aspects of the historic town of Salzburg. Is a terrace in front of the Museum is a spectacular spot overlooking the town of Salzburg and the Salzburg was the rain that day.

  • I entered this museum with paying for entrance fee €3.6 around 10pm, because a member of staff in information counter told me "it open until 11pm". But the museum, restaurant , shop, everywhere already closed. Of course there is no view!! So I backed to the entrance soon and I asked him giving me the payback.but he said "no" "you payed for using for a lift to 2nd floor". I was very disappointed , cause he didn't say anything about that when I entered , just said "open until 11pm." And he ignored me. It was my worst experience that I payed €3.6 to just use a lift up 2nd floor and down.
  • The large building is well designed and the galleries are spread over several levels. There are a lot of temporary exhibits so there’s not much point me describing the works on display. When I visit, though, I’m impressed with the variety of media that has been included and the way the themes and stories of the works are linked together.
  • Great exhibit making you think about the "anti-modern" nature of Salzburg. Staff is unpleasant and takes pleasure in enforcing their annoying "locker" policy.
  • A wonderful building, a unique location and very interesting exhibitions...
  • Beautiful museum and very contemporary contemporary art!
