Mirabell Palace, Salzburg

(4,400+ reviews on the web)
Garden Nature / Park
Built as a token of Prince-Archbishop Wolf Dietrich's love for his mistress, Mirabell Palace is perhaps best known as the backdrop of "The Sound of Music." The former palace was built in 1606 and now houses the offices of the mayor and municipal council. The boxwood gardens contain mythology-themed statues from 1730, as well as four groups of sculptures representing the four elements. If you're a fan of "The Sound of Music," don't miss the horse fountain, where the von Trapp children sang "Do-Re-Mi." A stroll through the gardens will jog many memories from the film. • Mirabell Palace and Gardens are beautiful. It is just 10 minutes walk from the train station and also the boarding point for hop n hop off bus service.  more »
  • Of course you have to visit Mirabell Gardens when in Salzburg. We even saw a group of pensioners singing Do Re Mi on the footsteps. Guess they have been wanting to do that since the film came out in 1...  more »
  • The gardens are a pleasant place to stroll. There is a nice fountain and established rose beds which were somewhat underwhelming. The dwarf garden comprises a dozen dwarf statues and poorly maintained...  more »

  • Beautifully maintained gardens. Much bigger than it initially looks, with myriad passages and a lot of entry ways. Summer sees the garden in full bloom and green in all its glory. Fans of The Sound of Music must not miss an opportunity to visit this place as a lot of scenes from the movie were shot here. Of course to remember the scenes, do watch the movie before visiting!
  • A nice place to rest a bit or simply enjoy architecture. A lot of people there and not so big so it may disturb. But it's worth seeing for tourists.
  • Passed through the gardens on the way to the older parts of the city. Nice but the best part was the statues. Laid out nice and a leisurely stroll.
  • A beautiful palace and more important (in my opinion) Garden!! If you're a fan of The Sound Of Music. This place is a must see! wonderful statues and fountains and great flowers and just all round great.
  • Must see for sound of music lovers! There are lots of people there, but still nice to go see places from the movie. It makes you smile and start singing do re mi in no time! :)
