Kapitelplatz & Kapitelschwemme, Salzburg

4.4
#14 of 28 in Historic Sites in Salzburg
Historic Site Tourist Spot
Pause in the center of Salzburg to admire Kapitelplatz & Kapitelschwemme, a courtyard with an 18th-century fountain. The fountain, featuring a statue of Neptune on a seahorse, was built in 1732 on the site where a horse pond had stood since the Middle Ages. Historical buildings like a cathedral, St. Peter's monastery, and old mills surround the square. Snap some pictures with the sea god, find a spot to sit and people-watch, or join a game of oversized chess. Where to stay in Salzburg

There’s no better area to stay in the city where Mozart was born than the historical city center, a World Heritage Site. Salzburg's hub offers comfortable accommodations nestled between a rich array of sights. The Salzach River cuts directly through town, dividing the city into east and west. Look for accommodations in the Altstadt, tucked in between the river and the city’s mountain, Monchsberg. For budget-minded travelers, try a centrally located youth hostel or small hotel. If price isn’t an issue, splurge on Austrian luxury in an upscale hotel.

  • There are a lot of statues, monuments and fountains to see as you wander this district, as well as finding endless cafes and shops for places to stop. The fountains are all worth checking out.  more »

  • Get it even if you don't like saying all roads lead you to piazza nothing special apart from the fountain. You see the Castle, the fortress with its cable car, the statue of the man with the Golden ball that I always wonder what you remember. The benches where people sit to cool off and rest.
