Kapitelplatz & Kapitelschwemme, Salzburg

4.4
#14 of 29 in Historic Sites in Salzburg
Pause in the center of Salzburg to admire Kapitelplatz & Kapitelschwemme, a courtyard with an 18th-century fountain. The fountain, featuring a statue of Neptune on a seahorse, was built in 1732 on the site where a horse pond had stood since the Middle Ages. Historical buildings like a cathedral, St. Peter's monastery, and old mills surround the square. Snap some pictures with the sea god, find a spot to sit and people-watch, or join a game of oversized chess. Impressive statue/water combo as well as the additional gold ball statue that is modern in contrast. Just a quaint plaza to enjoy.  more »

It is interesting to see how it acquired the population and especially tourist areas places to rest. Of course this was not specifically for this purpose, but in this case because of the historic city building allows this distribution benefit the contemplation of public places,

There is no better title, since it is in summer, with its dozens of craft stalls, food or delicious Austrian wine in winter, with its giant chess and the Christmas market, or at any time of the year in general in the Salzburg want to celebrate something, the venue is this square, boxed between the Cathedral and the streets that lead up to the Castle surrounded by the Bishop's Palace and administrative buildings of the University.

Get it even if you don't like saying all roads lead you to piazza nothing special apart from the fountain. You see the Castle, the fortress with its cable car, the statue of the man with the Golden ball that I always wonder what you remember. The benches where people sit to cool off and rest.

Where to stay in Salzburg

There’s no better area to stay in the city where Mozart was born than the historical city center, a World Heritage Site. Salzburg's hub offers comfortable accommodations nestled between a rich array of sights. The Salzach River cuts directly through town, dividing the city into east and west. Look for accommodations in the Altstadt, tucked in between the river and the city’s mountain, Monchsberg. For budget-minded travelers, try a centrally located youth hostel or small hotel. If price isn’t an issue, splurge on Austrian luxury in an upscale hotel.
