Hellbrunn Castle (Schloss Hellbrun), Salzburg
(4.1/5 based on 1,800+ reviews on the web)
Built as a summer day residence for Markus Sittikus (who was both a prince and an archbishop), Hellbrunn Castle (Schloss Hellbrun) is famous for its trick fountains. The palace was built from 1613 to 1619 as a place of celebration. Sittikus designed the fountains and water-powered figures in the palace's park to entertain and confuse his guests. The trick fountains spray at seemingly random moments, so be prepared to get a little bit wet. Visit the grottos to see representations of Greek mythology, and watch the water-powered show of Perseus freeing Andromeda and Apollo flaying Marsyas. Walk through the palace to get a feel for how the prince and his noble guests celebrated. The park was designed as a show of contrasts of light and dark, fire and water. • For me personally the most romantic Christmas market in Salzburg, the weekday run over romantic Platzerl, nice offer, with nice atmosphere and interesting supporting areas such as some animals in adventlich decorated small aviaries, the illuminated fountain of water games.

  • Good atmosphere. Nice Schloss park. There's also a section near the Christmas market with small farm animals which is fantastic for kids.
  • Of the entrance of the Castle and in the annexes and Park, the Christmas market tone is given by alleys of trees galore decorated with big red balls that gives a fairly beautiful appearance. In the alleys of this castle altogether quite traditional, are spread lovely stands of crafts on the theme of Christmas of course. When expected night which is pretty early at this time, there is another stamp even more magical. A beautiful ballad...

  • The only restaurant here in Hellbrunn. There's also a small cafe nearby. So I suggest you eat in town first or pack your own lunch before you head out to Hellbrunn or just have lunch here with limited selections of restaurants. It is quite packed as well so you have to queue and wait
  • No smile, no ambience, no service. Too bad, at a place that has real potential
  • The location is attractive and pleasant sitting on the sun terrace. It's the only advantage of this location but from our point of view. Otherwise tourist mass processing. Only a few dishes to choose from; the prices are borderline if one takes into account the poor (or non-existent) service. Despite multiple request, our table - on the food and beverage traces of several predecessors were - was not cleaned. For this, we had to wait about 45 minutes on the food and even makeshift cover the contaminated table with paper napkins. Late, I noticed that the Chair itself was beautiful - my bright pants had a red ketchup stain I could remove makeshift fortunately in the toilet on the upper leg. We were served by three different people, was not knowing who is responsible for our table at all. It is failed to order more drinks to us for the service. "I tell Mr / Mrs" was the standard saying, but no one came to take of the re-ordering. And it seemed to other guests similar to be like us. In cash the waiter apologized then at least for the inconvenience, but it was too late to do something good. Bottom line: we're definitely not a second time - goodbye! (Stay in July 2015, on a weekday lunch)
