Hangar-7, Salzburg

4.6
Marvel at the collection of 25 historical airplanes, helicopters, motors, and Formula One racing cars at Hangar-7. The "Flying Bulls", an association of pilots and mechanics, founded this multifunctional building in 1999. Have a coffee at the lounge next to a P-38 Lightning--Antoine de Saint-Exupéry's service airplane. Watch the sunset reflected in the wings of the Mitchell B-25 from the café. Dine at Ikarus--a Michelin-starred restaurant. You'll also see two BO 105s--the world's only civil helicopter licensed for aerobatics. Our Salzburg trip planner makes visiting Hangar-7 and other Salzburg attractions simple, and helps you make a travel plan personal to you.

  • This little stop off was well worth the free entrance fee. Many types of transportation were shown from an old Checker Taxi to. Stealth Plane  more »
  • A very impressive place that Mr. Mateschitz has since set up can be. It is possible to admire some very rare treasures from the vicinity and especially F1 fans will get their money's worth. Breakfast in the integrated Café. Not cheap, but still in need of booking.

  • Hangar-7 was awesome, the building's architecture and planes/cars/helicopters on display were very interesting. We wish we could have gone to the room at the top of the dome, or could afford to eat at the restaurant. If you are in the area and can make it there, I would recommend going. Even on a rainy day, the views of the airport were spectacular.
  • Spectacular building with an amazing collection of Redbull airplanes and cars. There's no entrance fee and you can enjoy a cocktail or a drink at the museums top floor
  • This place has some fascinating machines. It would be even better if it were more interactive, but I still highly recommend it.
  • Fabulous museum dedicated to speed and the machines that have taken people to the edges of our human limitations. It is surrounded by super-swanky bars, including on hanging from the center of the domed ceiling. The smell of high performance petrol products is worth the visit alone, and it's a great contrast to the important and ancient history of surrounding Salzburg.
  • A place to be for petrol heads! Free entry for the first hangar. Unbelievable machines in great surrounding.

Where to stay in Salzburg

There’s no better area to stay in the city where Mozart was born than the historical city center, a World Heritage Site. Salzburg's hub offers comfortable accommodations nestled between a rich array of sights. The Salzach River cuts directly through town, dividing the city into east and west. Look for accommodations in the Altstadt, tucked in between the river and the city’s mountain, Monchsberg. For budget-minded travelers, try a centrally located youth hostel or small hotel. If price isn’t an issue, splurge on Austrian luxury in an upscale hotel.
