Franziskanerkirche, Salzburg
(4.7/5 based on 320+ reviews on the web)
A fusion of Gothic and Romanesque architectural styles, Franziskanerkirche represents one of Salzburg's oldest churches. Stop by the church, located in the heart of the city's Old Town, and admire the exterior's medieval construction, dating from the 1200s. Its footprint is squat, its roof is relatively steep, and its facade features high arched windows. Make your way inside and note the change in appearance as you transition through the naves and vaulted ceilings to the original basilica. Wander through the different chapels within, and be sure to view the religious works of art and Baroque decorations that contrast with the rest of the building. Put Franziskanerkirche at the forefront of your travel plans using our Salzburg family vacation planner.

  • the Franziskanerkirke, Franciscan church, beautiful, its choir was built in the fifteenth century a Gothic masterpiece, but impressive are towering pillars launched that seem to break through directly to heaven, the altar at the center of the Baroque Choir, the nave was built in the late Romanesque ¬ in the early 13th century, making it one of the oldest buildings in Salzburg. In the chapel are frescoes depicting scenes from the life of Saint Francis, Johann Michael Rottmayer; the statues of angels and putties are artwork of Ottavio Mosto. What about a ' wonderful work!!

  • The Franciscan church of St. Peter which was formerly the parish church of the town situated opposite St. Peter at the end of the Salzburg Cathedral square. The Romanesque nave from the 13th century has been extended by the high Gothic choir and the Baroque chapels wreath. The high altar was created by Fischer von Erlach, the Madonna comes from the South Tyrolean artist Michael Pacher. Behind the high altar, there is the marble altar of 1561. The corresponding Franciscan monastery is located opposite the Franciscan church

  • The impressive Franziskanerkirche - Franciscan Church - in Salzburg is well worth visiting. It is a work of art where photographs are permitted.

  • Now THIS church is really special. I've gotta admit I am not a huge fan of Baroque (it's just too much for me), but the way this one is decorated and those funny little details you can find... yeah, it sort of convinced me Baroque wasn't that bad afterall.
  • I was not inside the church but from outside looks interesting
  • Opening hours: daily 6.30am-7.30 pm No visits during mass!
  • Beautiful gothic church dedicated to San Francisco and that its definitely worth a visit. Was founded in the 8th century Romanesque and Gothic as rebuilt in the thirteenth century as.
