Where to stay in Salzburg

There’s no better area to stay in the city where Mozart was born than the historical city center, a World Heritage Site. Salzburg's hub offers comfortable accommodations nestled between a rich array of sights. The Salzach River cuts directly through town, dividing the city into east and west. Look for accommodations in the Altstadt, tucked in between the river and the city’s mountain, Monchsberg. For budget-minded travelers, try a centrally located youth hostel or small hotel. If price isn’t an issue, splurge on Austrian luxury in an upscale hotel.

  • We nearly didn't do this, but actually it was the highlight of our visit to Salzburg. It's not clear from the outside how big the state rooms are, or that the tour includes the upper levels of the Cat...  more »
  • The tour combines several areas and can take several hours if you like to peruse the exhibits. My favorite part was the balcony inside and outside of the Dom. Beautiful!  more »
  • I was not expecting this to be so huge! It took over 2 hours to see the whole museum. Plan for a lot of walking and take your time to enjoy the museum. I also took a break and drank the self serve cof...  more »

  • You can easily spend 2-3 hours with an audio guide admiring diverse exhibitions and the architecture
  • Just before the main doors of the cathedral, you’ll see the entrance to the museum, which does have a fee. It’s a large museum which goes over several levels of the cathedral and attached buildings. It has an excellent collection of artwork and treasures, including some significant religious relics. You can also see some of the state rooms. It's really worth the time if you are interested in religious history.
  • History of the residence of the Prince-Archbishops given on the audio guide and nice gallery of paintings.
  • I loved this museum. It's audio tour is sequential and informative and within an hour's time, I've gained enough historical knowledge to better appreciate Salzburg as a city,
  • Wonderful place to visit
