  • Free admission with my Go Salzburg Card. Glad I took a trip inside. Everything is right there, might as well enjoy your time inside. Lovely and very informative, great history lesson.  more »
  • In may 2014, was solemnly inaugurated the "DomQuartier" (Cathedral quarter) as a unique cultural complex stellar in the heart of the historic centre of Salzburg. The old Center of principesco-arzobispal power (the Cathedral and residence) is, next to the Benedictine monastery of San Pedro, the current "DomQuartier". With only one entry, visitors have the opportunity to marvel at five different Salzburg's museums. The historic site of the "DomQuartier" is home to several exhibitions of the Baroque history of the city. The starting point of the tour by the "DomQuartier" are the sumptuous Baroque rooms of the "Alte Residenz" (residence). Visitors arrive at the "Museum St Peter" (Museum of San Pedro) passing through the "Residenzgalerie" (Gallery of the residence) and the "Dommuseum" (Cathedral Museum). The baroque collection "Rossacher" of the "Salzburg Museum" in the North Chapel is the last stop. Highly recommended: the tour provides stunning new ideas and views of downtown and the mountains of the city. As for the current "DomQuartier" buildings, it can be said that during the reign of 1654-1668, the basess for the new tour of museums, with the construction of the arches of the Cathedral, sit the places of residence and the Cathedral and the act UAL "Lange Galerie" (long Gallery). Impossible to visit and learn about, except running the facilities in a single day.

  • I should preface the review by invoking the terrible weather on the day we visited the Cathedral quarter, which comprises several buildings linked by stairs and corridors. Because it was dark and cold...  more »

  • Great historical tour. Loved the architecture and paintings. I really enjoyed the cabinet of curiosities. You will spend about three hours here if you enjoy history. Be aware that it is closed to tours on Tuesday.
  • Just before the main doors of the cathedral, you’ll see the entrance to the museum, which does have a fee. It’s a large museum which goes over several levels of the cathedral and attached buildings. It has an excellent collection of artwork and treasures, including some significant religious relics. You can also see some of the state rooms. It's really worth the time if you are interested in religious history.
  • You can easily spend 2-3 hours with an audio guide admiring diverse exhibitions and the architecture
  • I loved this museum. It's audio tour is sequential and informative and within an hour's time, I've gained enough historical knowledge to better appreciate Salzburg as a city,
  • History of the residence of the Prince-Archbishops given on the audio guide and nice gallery of paintings.

Where to stay in Salzburg

There’s no better area to stay in the city where Mozart was born than the historical city center, a World Heritage Site. Salzburg's hub offers comfortable accommodations nestled between a rich array of sights. The Salzach River cuts directly through town, dividing the city into east and west. Look for accommodations in the Altstadt, tucked in between the river and the city’s mountain, Monchsberg. For budget-minded travelers, try a centrally located youth hostel or small hotel. If price isn’t an issue, splurge on Austrian luxury in an upscale hotel.
