Altstadt von Salzburg, Salzburg
(4.7/5 based on 6,000+ reviews on the web)
Surrounded by Monchsberg fortress and with the Salzach River winding its way through this World Heritage Site, Altstadt von Salzburg represents an architectural mix of buildings. The river splits the town into two halves connected by a series of bridges. The left bank of the Salzach, where Roman buildings once stood, is older. Most of the core is pedestrian-only, so enjoy a stroll through the historic town's many narrow streets. The city wears its history on its streets, with buildings from the Middle Ages, Romanesque, Baroque, and Renaissance periods. Visit the fountain in Residence Square, the city's most famous square, and Mozart Square, a hometown tribute to the classical music legend. • Story city. Magical places to remember. Kindness of its people, silence, contemplation, nature... and the master of music in capital letters: Mozart. The genius, present in every corner of the city, from his house and square up to the typical sweets that are sold in bakeries. Essential the Mirabell Gardens, the Cathedral and stroll and be lost. The Castle or fortress does not deserve the twelve euros that is worth the entry and what is compulsory is up and leaving the castle to the left, take the road that leads to the viewpoint of the Valley (one of the landscapes is nicest I've seen in my life) and then continue to the Museum of modern art to the city. I'll be back, no doubt it.

  • Salzburg is one of those attractive cities which can be largely taken in on foot or, for those short of time or less energetic, using the impeccably efficient hop-on, hop-off buses They work like cloc...  more »
  • Beautiful place to walk around and gawk at historic buildings, churches and shops tucked in between the streets.

  • Since 2006 when I visited Salzburg first time, almost every summer I spend my holiday here. I still love this part of the city, although is old, every year I discover something new. Old time atmosphere is combined with facilities that a modern city should offer and old building are kept almost original. Love this city and this region, all Salzkammergut.
  • Avoid early in the day if you are not happy in CROWDS tour groups evenings are better for remarkable street musicians, prosecco and wonderful pastries. Best pretzels in town @Kapital Platz "originaler brezelstand"
  • The old town of Salzburg is extremly beautiful, amd the Salzburg Castle untop of the hill is fantastic.
