5 Fingers, Obertraun

(4.8/5 based on 280 reviews on the web)
5 Fingers is a free viewing platform in the Dachstein Mountains of Upper Austria, on Mount Krippenstein. It was named "5 Fingers" by virtue of its hand-like shape. It has been called the "most spectacular viewing platform in the Alps." The individual fingers, which are approximately 4m long fingers, are built over a precipice of about 400m depth. The viewing platform is less than a 20 minute walk from the Krippenstein Station of the Dachstein cable car line.Features• On the first finger a metal frame has been mounted, so that visitors can take a framed photo of themselves as a souvenir.• The second finger is equipped with a glass bottom which allows visitors to look down into the abyss below.• The third finger is shorter than all others and is not accessible all the way. It has a springboard at the end, and symbolizes the freedom of the mountains.• The fourth finger has a hole in the floor that allows a free view into the abyss.• At the fifth finger a telescope is available free of charge. The observation deck is illuminated at night until midnight. It can be easily seen with the bare eye as far away as the towns of Hallstatt and Obertraun.

  • To get you should take the cable car at the station Dachstein (at obertraun), admission is 29 + 4.50 rackets (is recommended its use in winter), arriving above all (after take two cable cars) everything is marked with yellow signs that indicate you travel for about half an hour, in middle of road (a 15-minute start) there is a viewpoint where you can take a photo. Is a place 100% recommended because not all them days is can walk by the Alps.

  • This is beautiful! If you are coming to Austria must go if or if... in the same ski slope (Dachstein) take passes some snowshoes feet and you have to climb in two cable cars to a track of ski to this super alta(en el mismo sitio coges el primero que va super lleno siempre y bajas en la primera parada después ahí coges otro que te lleva a la pista) to one side are skiers who are those who go to the ldo's bar and to the right We will walk and you have a lot of yellow signs that are showing you the way (about half an hour) that carry hot super shoe! You are going to have cold feet up with snow boots... I went with some UGG and was the only one who does not step cold feet but many socks! Us us cost 29 EURS entry and € 4.50 racquets shoes! You are going to give a few sticks as the ski they don't miss but each one as you see

  • This is a great way to spend the afternoon if you're visiting Hallstatt. Only a 10 minute drive to the lift that brings you up the mountain. Once there you can hike several trails. The five fingers trail isn't very long? it's says it's 30 minutes but if you're not stopping for photos (which you undoubtedly will) it won't nearly that long. Once at the five fingers you will take in amazing views of Hallstatt lake and town while standing over a 1300 meter cliff. You will see lots of paraglider's as well. After you hike you can enjoy a good meal and a beer at the restaurant. We got the spaztle which I highly recommend.
  • if you come during sunshine, you can enjoy all mountains arround, as well view on Hallstadt. easy to get here from cable car.
  • What a great place for views and self reflection. Once you are at the top you will he memorized. When you get off the second lift it is a 30 min walk if you are focused. If you are like us and are distracted then maybe an hour. There are yellow signs that tell you where to go.
  • Fantastic place if you have good weather to see the peaks in their splendour. The Panoramic views across the mountains and down into Valleys are wonderful.
  • A fantastic reward for the walk atop the mountains from the cable car. The views are just spectacular!
