  • A mysterious story is told that on 30 January 1889 the Austro-Hungarian Emperor Franz Joseph collapsed when he heard the death news of the Crown Prince with his mistress Baroness Maria Vetsera in the hunting lodge at Mayerling, where they committed suicide. That was a tragedy which the Royal family has confronted for decades. The funeral of Crown Prince took place in Capuchin Church in Vienna, wherein there were totally 12 Austrian Kings and 8 Queens being buried during the Habsburg dynasty.
  • Perfect place!
  • Interesting exhibition in the retelling the story of the last days of the Crown Prince Rudolf and his lover. A beautiful castle from which unfortunately only a small part of exhibition visitors can be seen. Great rose garden!

  • I was, frankly, very disappointed. The tea pavilion is beautifully restored, but gives no idea of how it was here at the time actually. It looks simply too modern for the old Castle. The restoration is not well managed in my opinion. The other Castle is also not really the hotspot for culture. Only the castle chapel with attached prayer room, the emperor took advantage after the demise of the Crown Prince, is very well preserved and well used in scene. The rest of the "Castle" is fully updated, with spot lighting and plasterboard walls. What a pity. Very bad. There are however much to read and learn. And from the outside, the castle is also an eye-catcher.
