Burg Kreuzenstein is a castle near Leobendorf in Lower Austria, Austria. Burg Kreuzenstein is 265m above sea level. It was constructed on the remains of an early medieval castle that had fallen into disrepair and was then demolished during the Thirty Years' War. Intended to be a family vault for the Wilczek family, it was rebuilt in the 19th century by Count Nepomuk Wilczek with money from the family's large Silesian coal mines. Kreuzenstein is interesting in that it was constructed out of sections of medieval structures purchased by the family from all over Europe to form an authentic-looking castle. Thus, the castle can be considered both a 'neo-' and 'original' medieval structure. The castle is sometimes used as a location for films. This castle is sometimes confused with the medieval castle Burg Liechtenstein, where the movie The Three Musketeers was filmed in 1993.LocationThe castle is located just north of Vienna and the Danube on a rising above Rohrwald, directly above Leobendorf and between the towns of Korneuburg and Stockerau. The elevation is, the height above the Danube about 100m.Close to Burg Kreuzenstein is a water gap in the Danube called Wiener Pforte ("Viennese Portal"), so that it allows a wide view of the current course of the river and the Korneuburger Becken ("Korneuburger sedimentary basin") upstream. Approximately opposite to Burg Kreuzenstein, on the south bank of the Danube, lies Burg Greifenstein castle.By using our Leobendorf vacation generator, you can arrange your visit to Kreuzenstein Castle and other attractions in Leobendorf.

It is only every hour in the Castle and also only with leadership. Unfortunately, large parts of the Castle are not accessible and €10 entrance for the leadership is me personally something a lot.

Van buiten een heel mooi kasteel. Door de rondleiding, die vast op elk heel uur wordt geregeld, kom je veel te weten van de geschiedenis. Een aanrader! more »From outside a very nice Castle. By the tour, which stuck on every hour, you come to know much of the history. A must!

Die Öffnungszeiten stimmen nicht, man kommt nur alle 1-2h kurz hinein, dazwischen stehen die Ankommenden vor versperrten Toren. Die Führung ist gehetzt, lieblos, man fühlt sich durchgescheucht. Führer... more »Opening times are incorrect, you get only once every 1-2 hours short, in between the arrivals are at locked gates. The leadership is rushed, Loveless, feels thoroughly disturbed. Director has managed to speak, by suffocating in armor Knights about torture methods up to suffocation deaths in bed in almost every room about terrible forms of death in the middle ages. Because many small children listened to was she asked to omit these details or at least to say in English. She reacted very unfriendly with "if they should not like that no castles visit." The visit has left schales feeling, disappointment and many unpleasant images in us.

Nice castle however the tour shows perhaps 30% of it. Also in my experience in most castles you are allowed to take photos (without flash) or make video, not in here though. It's a shame. We didn't eat in the restaurant outside but it seemed really cozy.

A fantastic fairy tale castle with flying eagles. We didn't book a guided tour, just enjoyed to be there.
