Explore the underground tunnels and museum exhibits at Kufstein Fortress, which served as a prison for political dissidents during Austro-Hungarian rule. Nowadays the fortress houses the city museum and hosts concerts and other events year-round. Ride the glass elevator to the top of the fortress to access the museum exhibits, labeled with both German and English explanations, and enjoy views of the city. Listen to a concert on the massive Heroes Organ in the entrance courtyard at scheduled times throughout the day while enjoying a meal at one of the picnic benches or the on-site cafe. Be sure to check the website for concert times and opening hours. To visit Kufstein Fortress on your trip to Kufstein, use our Kufstein trip planner.

Too bad the site was closed to the public, when we arrived, but Kufstein is a nice town with a lot of little shops with various curiosities. The Fortress is also used as a public place to view movies on their big screen and the view over the city is absolutely stunning.
Kids loved it more than all other castles we've been. The museum is really interesting amd there are cool hidden ways around the castle. The price is cheep.
Kufstein is a beautiful town with the castle perched high above it and the river Inn running through it. The castle is reached by funicular railway. When the organ is played the sound wafts over the town and gives a great atmosphere.
Historical place over the city. It's another fortress which never was defeated. Many political prisoners in the Habsburg time spent some time here. Historical showing, stone and rock, a restaurant inside, nice view on the city outside. Worth to see once.
Fascinating site accessed by funicular. Lots to see: prison tower, well with treadmill, long rock tunnel prison tower and rather gruesome torture chambers plus museum and great views. Good restaurants in town.
