The Golden Roof (Goldenes Dachl), Innsbruck

At The Golden Roof (Goldenes Dachl), imagine how the Austrian emperor and his wife sat on the porch and watched tournaments on the square below. The symbol of the city, it overlooks the main street of Altstadt. The name of the place stems from the 2,738 fire-gilded copper tiles covering the roof. Emperor Maximilian I commissioned the three-story balcony to celebrate his marriage to Bianca Maria Sforza. Learn about Austrian history from the reliefs and murals depicting scenes of the emperor's life. Eight sculpted reliefs covering the second-floor balustrade illustrate how aristocrats amused themselves. Look for a flanking relief depicting the acrobatic and grotesque dancing of Moorish origin. • We had an organised city tour, which was very good. The Golden roof is of course.

  • Is one of the great attractions of the city .... positioned in the historical centre where anyone, visiting heads ... and is a point of great, full of charm for everyone and for everyone. Definitely can't see circles at the time (and not surprisingly) ... at the time of the Austrian power. and you think that basically had to be wonderful times although much different from ours. and, from under his nose upwards, imagine what could represent: something unique which has witnessed scenes. Beautiful and picturesque. I recommend it.

  • Because the World Championship road race has proved difficult to admire the building since the square was full of people. The Sun has made the magic and the roof seemed to fire. Beautiful palazzo that hosts it.

  • We have visited for Christmas and for Easter. Both are best choice to get immersed into the lifestyle and cultural traditions of this fantastic city. We have listened to the magical music from Golden Dach. I recommend taking the lift for a walk and glimpse from bird's eyes, tasting the local specialties and desserts and choosing a nearby daily mountain tour. I'm fascinated how children's books are illustrated by gigantic statues of the heroes at street corners. Innsbruck has always fancy events for every taste. Don't miss the fashion opportunities in the city shopping center that has a unique view from the coffee-bar.The surprised for kids and families would take a week to explore.
  • An iconic symbol of this city. The view and the square in which we can find it is so well organized and the museum in it is incredibly well organized, full of stories than summarize the story of the city and the region itself. A very interesting spot and museum that should be a must visit.
  • A muted symbol of the grandeur of yesteryear, the 'Goldenes Dachl' - or the 'Golden Roof' - was decorated for Emperor Maximilian I on his wedding. Worth it? Definitely. But; When you reach the place, you are really expecting to see more than a few golden tiles on the roof near the top of the building - my point being if you are in Innsbruck, definitely visit this place, but I wouldn't suggest going out of your way for this. It is a good place to relax though, maybe enjoy a coffee while looking at the golden roof, with friends or family.
  • Very pleasant spot, I enjoyed a mid afternoon beer in one of the many cafes. Took a walk up the car free outdoor mall to the arch. A few buskers around to keep us entertained.
  • A main attraction in Innsbruck. Dates back to the year 1500. Located in the “Old Town”, there are also many restaurants and shops nearby as well. A must see any nice area for individuals and families alike.
