The Golden Roof (Goldenes Dachl), Innsbruck

3.8
At The Golden Roof (Goldenes Dachl), imagine how the Austrian emperor and his wife sat on the porch and watched tournaments on the square below. The symbol of the city, it overlooks the main street of Altstadt. The name of the place stems from the 2,738 fire-gilded copper tiles covering the roof. Emperor Maximilian I commissioned the three-story balcony to celebrate his marriage to Bianca Maria Sforza. Learn about Austrian history from the reliefs and murals depicting scenes of the emperor's life. Eight sculpted reliefs covering the second-floor balustrade illustrate how aristocrats amused themselves. Look for a flanking relief depicting the acrobatic and grotesque dancing of Moorish origin. • A lot of noise due to the attractions. In fact-nothing special. See and then you don't remember.

  • When you visit Innsbruck with the great old town, you should make sure to also stop at the Golden Dacherl. It is really very nice to look at.

  • Austrian art classical building of considerable impact, well maintained and well appreciated ... you see it already from a distance!

  • It's a roof... It is better to go when there's something going on like the Christmas Market or the Eastern Market or many other events or markets. Be Old Town section of Innsbruck is great to walk around in
  • The Museum is nice. It was smaller than i imagined. You get an audio guide which explains everything. The audio guides are available in diffrent languages.
  • A nice walking through the oldtown.. nearby there's a lot of good restaurants, stores and cafes
  • It's definitely interesting but I think there are better things to see in Innsbruck. Still worth having a look as it's fairly central. The museum is based around an audio guide provided in several languages. Some interesting history of Innsbruck though perhaps a little slow for me (I prefer signs to read then people can go at their own pace - there were signs too with some information on).
  • A landmark of Innsbruck. The history and story behind it makes it interesting. More of a “been there, done that” photo spot. But at Christmas time, stalls are set up for the Christmas market which makes it interesting and full of festive mood.
