Architectural Building Religious Site
Visit the canopied tomb of Archduke Maximilian III at Dom St. Jacob, the 18th-century Baroque cathedral dedicated to the apostle Saint James. Built between 1717 and 1724, the cathedral, with its lavish Baroque interior, is known for the painting Maria Hilf by Lucas Cranach the Elder. Considered one of the most venerated Marian images in the Christendom, it hangs above the main altar of the cathedral. Heavily damaged during World War II, the cathedral was eventually restored and features detailed artwork, sculptures, and a carefully-crafted pipe organ. Be sure to go on a guided tour to learn more about the historical background of the cathedral. • It's jus so beautiful and authentic.
  • Great cathedral in the baroque style with an equally amazing organ. Definitely worth visiting and paying the 'levy' to allow you to take photos inside.
  • Very Nice Cathedral. Very peaceful and divine.
  • Impressive baroque cathedral very typical of the style. I would recommend making a few minutes in your schedule to see it.
  • The organ is spectacular. You need to pay a euro or two for photo permission before entering.

Where to stay in Innsbruck

The Alpine gem of Austria, Innsbruck offers a surprising amount of reasonably priced accommodations for its size. Look for hostels and hotels in the medieval center. Another option is to stay above the city on the Hungerburg Plateau, where you’ll find Alpine hotels with panoramic views from each room. If you're traveling on a budget, look for lodging in private homes throughout the city: rent a room or the entire house for a local stay.
