Dom St. Jacob, Innsbruck

4.5
Visit the canopied tomb of Archduke Maximilian III at Dom St. Jacob, the 18th-century Baroque cathedral dedicated to the apostle Saint James. Built between 1717 and 1724, the cathedral, with its lavish Baroque interior, is known for the painting Maria Hilf by Lucas Cranach the Elder. Considered one of the most venerated Marian images in the Christendom, it hangs above the main altar of the cathedral. Heavily damaged during World War II, the cathedral was eventually restored and features detailed artwork, sculptures, and a carefully-crafted pipe organ. Be sure to go on a guided tour to learn more about the historical background of the cathedral. • I know no more beautiful Cathedral in the Tyrol – if it is estimated gold and abundant decoration. Enjoy pause and peace.

  • Baroque church of great beauty, with frescoes and remarkable sculptures. Due to the damage suffered during the second world war, was largely rebuilt in the 1950s.

  • To see absolutely. Outside isn't great either, but internally will surprise you, leaving you speechless.

  • Beautiful and ornate baroque cathedral, situated in the heart of Innsbruck's old town. There's a fee of €1 to take photos. The crypt is open for prayers only within the main opening hours.
  • A nice church (dom) to visit. You have to pay € 1 for a photo ticket.
  • Great cathedral in the baroque style with an equally amazing organ. Definitely worth visiting and paying the 'levy' to allow you to take photos inside.
  • It's jus so beautiful and authentic.

Where to stay in Innsbruck

The Alpine gem of Austria, Innsbruck offers a surprising amount of reasonably priced accommodations for its size. Look for hostels and hotels in the medieval center. Another option is to stay above the city on the Hungerburg Plateau, where you’ll find Alpine hotels with panoramic views from each room. If you're traveling on a budget, look for lodging in private homes throughout the city: rent a room or the entire house for a local stay.
