  • You can enjoy and explore all lake using some boat. There are lot of shops when you can rent some kajak, pedal boat or electric boat. I rent a small electric boat like 150W, but it was so slow, so i a...  more »
  • A charming place in the depths of the Tyrolean Alps (Upper Austria). We arrived with his wife and son by car from Munich. Settled in a small family hotel. Cheap, but the food-breakfast only. The truth was its own Café, look for a place for lunch and dinner. Charmed city and Lake. This tiny town that lives in it (as written in the booklet) only 785 people. Funny thing was seen on the door of the police station, United with the post office, which works only one police officer in the County, the ad is "Left to patrol the neighborhood, going after lunch." The town is to the slopes of the mountains surrounding the Lake, and stepped down to the narrow strip of coast. One of the attractions-local church with a tiny cemetery. The place is so small that once in 10 years it completely dug up and release for new graves, and everything remains stored in the basement of the Church. The second-oldest in Europe salt quarry (3 thousand years). A very interesting place with organized excursions. Still there are many mountain routes for ecotourists. Types of clear lake and the surrounding mountains are stunning. Have a fantastic lookout "five fingers" on Mount Dakshtajn. The truth is it doesn't work in the off-season. And get there 50 km. Without machine stress. Local restaurants with fresh fish and waiters in leather shorts are very picturesque.

  • We took electric powered boat out for an hour. 20 euro which I thought was quite reasonable. You can fit 4 comfortably. The views from the water are just amazing. We saw and heard (band) a wedding pro...  more »

  • Renting one of these boats was great fun for my teenager and I on a really hot June day. They are super easy to maneuver with only two speeds, "stop" and "go slow". You don't need to have any knowledge of boating to do this. It's a great way to get beautiful pictures of Hallstatt!
  • Wonderful place, very fairytale like. Buut there's a downside: it's absolutely PACKED with tourists, especially Asians. Went there on a rainy day, and the streets were swarming. I don't want to imagine what it would be like on a sunny day. All.in all, beautiful, but consider going in the off-season.
  • We visited here in December 2016. The residents of Lake Hallstatt was having their once a year Christmas Market that day. It was so much fun.. We had Gluewhein, shopped and listened to Christmas carols. I will never forget our wonderful experience. I hope to visit again one day.
  • The beauty of this village makes it almost surreal to visit. I kind of expect to look behind houses just to find out it's only fake fronts. Of course there are tourists but here there are almost too many.
  • Walking along the lake during mid of February on a sunny day is a very good experience there. Nice scene, fresh cool air with snow, lake and mountain. Few souvenir shops with nice craft but not cheap price. Better come here after Apr/01 for more activities in this small but very nice town in Austria.

Where to stay in Hallstatt

In Hallstatt, a tiny village built creatively around a lake, staying somewhere with a view of the fairy-tale waters is a must. Look for a room high up on the hill to appreciate a view of the lake and valley. Despite its small size, the village boasts various accommodation options, from guesthouses and small inns to exquisite resorts. Before tourism boomed here, visitors used to pay the wealthy families in town to stay in their castles. Today many families have continued this tradition by running cozy bed and breakfasts.
