(3.1/5 based on 200+ reviews on the web)
The Murinsel in Graz, Austria, is actually not an island at all, but an artificial floating platform in the middle of the Mur river. This landmark of Graz was designed by New York artist Vito Acconci on the occasion of Graz becoming the 2003 European Capital of Culture. The building is in the form of a giant sea shell and measures 47m in length. Two footbridges connect it with both banks of the Mur. The center of the platform forms an amphitheatre. Below a twisted round dome there is a café and a playground.

  • Floating platform that serves as a bridge between the two banks of the river Mur. Fascinating figure out how they were able to create a meeting space, a space ' social ' with bar, children's play area, Amphitheater.

  • The Murinsel is run-down, the staff is not very motivated, toilets were not clean. Too bad that's why.

  • You need to see this in Graz. Also have a coffee there. And in case you are with kids, there is a very nice climbing area on the island.
  • The bridge has an interesting design for sure. Not much to do there though, it was worth a visit.
  • The bridge is really interesting.. there is also a bar there which is good
  • Its an awesome chilled place with inside and outside seating, on the river just peaceful
  • A modern inspired artificial island in the middle of the river that houses a cafe. Bridges connect it to both banks. It makes a convenient crossing point for the river. A nice spot for a coffee and to take pictures from and to take pictures of.
