  • Interesting historical building in the Centre of Graz. It is the mausoleum of the Emperor Fernando II with a clear tendency to imitate the Greek and Roman classics. It's worth the visit.

  • From Linz Sporgasse-hofgasse with a gentle slope up 7-8 minutes. Next to the Dome (Graz Cathedral) was built. This is the mausoleum of Ferdinand II was born in Graz, became emperor of the Holy Roman Empire and then sleep. It is a sumptuous mausoleum with still two towers seems small compared to the dome next to the. It was impressive façade decorated with sculptures of some particularly expressive. Dissatisfied, and ringed the building tried to mansoleum the entire capture photo image is helpful. You should beware as opening late and 10:30.

  • The mausoleum of Emperor Ferdinand II. next to the Cathedral was built until 1636 in the Mannerist style. It consists of the cross-shaped St. Catherine's Church and the oval-shaped Tomb. Sceptre and Imperial Eagle with imperial sword and Globus Cruciger serve as dome topping. The Interior was finished until 1687. The Tomb itself is located in the basement. The double sarcophagus made of red marble by Archduke Karl II and his wife Maria Anna von Bayern is unfortunately with the header page to the visitor. However, mirrors allow a glimpse of the front. The tombstones inserted in the wall as well as the "Herzgrüftel" with the heart urns are hard to see. Obviously, these are but empty.

Where to stay in Graz

Austria’s second-largest city offers a large selection of accommodation options for every type of traveler. Outside of the city’s core in the Lend district are more affordable lodgings. Roughly a ten-minute walk to the Altstadt, this area provides an economical alternative while still keeping you close to the attractions. If you’re willing to compromise on privacy, the best prices are in private accommodations in local homes. Often this means sharing a bathroom with other guests and occasionally even the homeowners.
