Kunsthaus Graz, Graz

3.3
#3 of 14 in Museums in Graz
Home to an extensive array of contemporary and modern artwork, Kunsthaus Graz serves as an architectural landmark in itself. Pay a visit to the unorthodox building and you'll see why it serves as a symbol of modern art, thanks to its blob-like construction. The museum boasts a screen on the outside made up of separate pixels projected over a curved surface. Wander the facility and explore its displays and pieces from artists around the world, focusing on works that span a wide range of contemporary topics. Join a guided tour for a more in-depth look at the museum's holdings, or download the audio guide app from the website for a self-guided tour. Be sure to check online for information regarding the museum's temporary exhibits. Plan a trip to Graz easily and quickly by telling Inspirock to suggest an itinerary.

  • Bombastica but not offensive. In the Centre of Graz on the right bank of the Mur, impresses with its extremely modern and eclectic architecture, the building that houses the Museum of contemporary art seems an alien creature or animal indefinite, someone thinks to water and a blue bubble giant, the rest makes the structure named the island Murinsel pendant on the walls, which defines the Graz of the future if we want to. Grown from the bowels of the Eisernen cast iron Haus, one of the first buildings in Europe, it was called the "Friendly Alien" by its creators Peter Cook and Colin Fournier. We have to thank them for this architectural gem of the 21st century. The outer "skin" of the Friendly Alien is made of plexiglas. In the evening has a special lighting. We have not visited exhibitions inside, but we stopped in the lobby where there is also a coffee shop.

  • Mixed feelings about this one. The exhibit isn't that great but the shop and the architecture make up for it. Also a bit pricey to visit. In all honesty you can skip it and will not miss out much! Just walk by and look at it! The wow factor is only on the outside!
  • The service I was provided with was more than excellent - friendly and useful; the building from outside seemed to be very nice, according to the architecture, but the exhibitions inside were awful. I didn't expect them to be that bad. For me the ticket costed 3EUR, but for an adult is 9EUR - totally not worth it. I don't reccomend visiting, except passing by and taking some photos. So disappointed...
  • Interesting architecture, though more from the outside than from the inside. Very poor exhibitions. I was wondering if it was real art sometimes... dissapointing visit.
  • Great vibe and art.. modern design
  • A modern art place with some very unique architecture and design.

Where to stay in Graz

Austria’s second-largest city offers a large selection of accommodation options for every type of traveler. Outside of the city’s core in the Lend district are more affordable lodgings. Roughly a ten-minute walk to the Altstadt, this area provides an economical alternative while still keeping you close to the attractions. If you’re willing to compromise on privacy, the best prices are in private accommodations in local homes. Often this means sharing a bathroom with other guests and occasionally even the homeowners.
