The square is located at the bottom of the herrengasse, where there was a door from which it takes its name. Now the only thing notable is the column with the statue of the Madonna.

Where to stay in Graz

Austria’s second-largest city offers a large selection of accommodation options for every type of traveler. Outside of the city’s core in the Lend district are more affordable lodgings. Roughly a ten-minute walk to the Altstadt, this area provides an economical alternative while still keeping you close to the attractions. If you’re willing to compromise on privacy, the best prices are in private accommodations in local homes. Often this means sharing a bathroom with other guests and occasionally even the homeowners.
